Pains me to say it but... His voice does not sound good. The upper range is now nearly gone... Really starting to worry about his voice
The few clips I have watched his voice does not sound strong and there is no energy, band seems bored. Maybe the crowd is not giving them good vibes - lol
There is no energy at all and there hasn't for some time Maybe he does need a new set I've been keeping up with Billy Joel lately more than ever and honestly those shows have energy plus the set is realiviely new every night. Plus Billy isn't afraid of trying rarities like "Running On Ice", "Surprises", "Scandiavian Skies", "Until the Night", etc.. However Paul wants to play such a cookie cutter set. There's actually not really any song in the set where the band could actually losen up.. I can think of plenty of solo songs that fit the criteria. I mean come on you know it's bad when you're playing "All Together Now". Throw in "The World Tonight", "Get Out of My Way", "My Brave Face", "Old Siam, Sir", "Ballroom Dancing", "Getting Closer", "Take It Away", etc - a song with energy! All of those would fit the live setting perfectly
That's what we've been saying!

(of course being there is much different...you get all the excitement)

" I mean come on you know it's bad when you're playing "All Together Now"." Exactly and I would add "For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite". I mean does he really think Beatle fans are hoping that he plays those songs - lol. I like those songs you picked and imagine how much fun this band would have with closing the first encore with something like "Soily". Other songs the band could have fun with during regular set would be something like "About You" from DR or "That Was Me' from MAF IMO.

I thought "Jet" sounded real good the first night in Tokyo...

Yes. And same with Osaka. He wasn't "screaming" through those high notes in 'Jet' like he tend to do these days. edit: Okay, the "little lady"'s are painful. Later on he postpones them and squeezes them out, after that he just lowers the notes, something he normally NEVER does. Telling. But again, nitpicking, I can single out gigs from the last few years in which this happens, nothing new or too shocking. Regarding the set on a whole, excitement, energy... The people actually there disagreed highly with some statements above:
harleyblues:
you guys, not kidding Paul, Brian, Abe, WIX, Rusty were flawless last night... sound so crisp, them jamming impromptu's little added bonus... Abe's intro into Live &Let Die w/ a Santana vibe,... They were all happy even Dear Ol WIX, who got a loving applause, saw WIX, smiling many times, 'the dude with the coolest sideburns, in rockin roll. Hope for the future, keeps playing in our heads since last night it sounds so Brill live!! The whole ****ing gig just flowed... nothing forced... Oh slight flub in the beginning of All Together Now.. In hear Today, a slight falsetto at the bridge, w/Paul it was just a ****ing incredible gig... I know we say that many times,.... this ones for the books.. Paul, joked about Sumo wrestling, looked at his watch and said.. 'What Time is Sumo' than he did the Sumo stance like they do... he said this in Japanese which made it more hysterical...

I don't think it's fair to judge the "energy" of a set based on grainy YouTube clips with poor sound quality. You really can't tell unless you're there.
-
Where are the Japanese board members that are attending these concerts? (I know it's 4:40 AM in Japan now, so "they're in bed" is not a valid answer)
-
A friend has just bought this book for me. Those of you in Tokyo should buy it for yourselves too, as it covers all of Paul's Japanese tours, except the current one.
-
^ Very nice Carlos.

I agree. I did not even ask for it. She saw the book and thought I would like to have it, which was a very kind gesture. Another friend who is there for the tour got me some souvenirs as well. Macca-friends are a really generous & helpful bunch, aren't they?

I read that the April 23 soundcheck had "You Never Give Me Your Money" (along with "On My Way To Work"). I'm intrigued.

Hmm... MaccaReport has the soundcheck setlist and "You Never Give Me Your Money" isn't there... 1. Honey Don't 2. Blues Suede Shoes 3. Drive My Car 4. Coming Up 5. Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On 6. Let 'Em In 7. On My Way To Work 8. San Francisco Bay Blues 9. Everybody Out There 10. Ram On 11. Bluebird 12. Lady Madonna

I'm curious about the April 25 soundcheck setlist. There's always at least one rare song at the Japanese VIP packages. It's almost 7:30 PM in Tokyo, so the concert itself must have started by now.
-
It seems that the show began at 7:20 PM with "Eight Days A Week". Fans have posted pictures, such as these: https://scontent-gru.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/l/t1.0-0/1544964_827730967319332_1377120083794298125_n.jpg?oh=62c8a755dcac9a3321cecf6a873c9ecc&oe=559E95E3

If I understood correctly, this is the correct order of the April 25 soundcheck setlist: Matchbox Honey Don't Drive My Car Letting Go One After 909 C Moon Let 'Em In Things We Said Today On My Way To Work Midnight Special Singing The Blues Bluebird Massage Song / Lady Madonna

Apparently he did All My Loving at the second Tokyo concert.

Almost correct, 'Let 'Em In' was before 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On'. 'You Never Give Me Your Money' was in the form of some instrumental improvisation with cheesy sounds, just before 'Lady Madonna'.
-
It's been exactly 3 hours since the April 25 show began, so I'm assuming it has just ended.
