Have been so sad about David's passing. Reading so much on the Internet. His wife must be so devastated. It did seem as if he was immortal. "Here am I floating round my tin can Far above the Moon Planet Earth is blue... And we really will miss you David Bowie
I'm still in disbelief love2travel!!! I can't believe that Bowie's gone!!! I'm just glad that I had a chance to see Bowie live in my lifetime!!!
I know!! I'm reading so much and listening to so many things. It's just such a shocker that he was able to keep it quiet. Good for him... That was a really nice post Beatlesfanrandy! I have been one of the main care givers for three close family members who have had debilitating illnesses, and thankfully his family was able to keep things quiet, as he wished. I too am really happy that his life is being celebrated and that he died with his last album coming out with such great reviews and with his great awareness. It seems he was orchestrating the celebration of his life, larger than life really... That he knew was to follow in his passing over. A star supernova, that follows someone of his stature, in death. He is looking down from the heavens, and orchestrating his death, as he did with his life...

Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger in talks to perform at David Bowie tribute concert http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/6855544/Paul-McCartney-and-Mick-Jagger-in-talks-to-perform-at-David-Bowie-tribute-concert.html
A Paul McCartney spokesman said yesterday that published reports that Paul McCartney might be among the performers at an upcoming New York City concert to honor David Bowie are just "tabloid speculation." Rumors that Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger would perform were originally reported by a British newspaper. http://www.examiner.com/article/mccartney-spokesman-dismisses-rumor-that-beatle-may-sing-at-bowie-tribute

To be honest, I can't imagine those two doing much of a Bowie tribute, which is no offence. Maybe someone like Lady Gaga, start from there and go wilder. Iggy Pop, for sure. Bowie was great but it is hard to find a tune of his my Dad would like and that is a compliment. Even the Stones had a 'comical' appeal to the older generation, Bowie didn't and aside from Little Drummer Boy with Bing, he didn't really do songs that put a foot in the mainstream for older folk arena. He didn't appear to want to be liked, though he did have his 'sell-out' phase, as he saw it, after Let's Dance. I guess his death is redolent of Lennon's in that he had a product out at the time that's very good, also a bit of a surprise (Bowie's was better reviewed actually) and the death was so unexpected, it pulls the rug up from under your feet.

In Macca's David Bowie tribute on his (Macca's) home page, Macca made a point to laud "Ziggy Stardust" Bowie for promoting and advancing "British music" world-wide. (Which Macca and mates also had an early hand in, to say the least.) I wonder if those reviewers who panned "Lazarus" Bowies off-Broadway recent play/musical, now regret their putting it down when Bowie was here to read their qualms. It's interesting Michael C. "Dexter" Hall played the alien lead character in the play--Hall had cancer a few years back, and has beaten it so far. I never watched "Dexter" as it was too violent, but I always liked Hall's looks and would like to see him in more milder and different fare from playing a serial killer. ops: I remember taking my little sister and her friend to see "The Man Who Fell To Earth," not knowing there was a completely nude sex scene. The first time they'd ever seen that ops: They thought the movie was cool and enjoyed it, despite their very tender years! And it was a cool cult classic. Now I perceive the sci fi film as rather a metaphor for humanity's shared plight of not really knowing where they came from and who made them and why, and who made the universe, etc., and what they're doing here and what's gonna happen, etc. And that their souls are immortal if not their bodies, like Bowie's alien's was. His body lived on and on too, seemingly immortal.

Six Feet Under should do it.

Yes! I binge-watched that show a few years ago!

I remember reading about Bowie, long ago, that he's always been haunted by the disappearance of his brother (step brother? half-brother?) who vanished many years ago never to be found--has anyone else heard this? Terrible tragedy for him and his family to have endured. Very sad. If true.

In the new tribute issue of Rolling Stone, it says his family had a history of mental illness, and his half-brother was living in an institution during the 70's. Later in the article it says that his half-brother committed suicide. Bowie said he always feared it would happen to him, too. Fortunately, it didn't.

Randy, many thanks for the info and explanation. You never know what's eating someone but usually when that famous it comes out. And it reminds you even superstars can face the worst sorts of family tragedies and aren't immune. (Remember John Lennon's desperate attempts to find solace, his harrowing heartrending cries on the Plastic Ono album.) Bowie's is especially sad.
