Paul Kanter, lead guitarist of Jefferson Airplane who was married to lead singer Grace Slick, has passed away at 74. I think he played for their later incarnation Starship too. He and Grace have one daughter, China Kantner. Can you believe this...another one

I saw the Jefferson Starship in 1975, in concert, when their album, Red Octopus, with the hit single, Miracles, was on the charts. I think that was their first, post-Airplane album.

I believe we are in the winter of our idols, and I would prefer a Pinned Obituaries thread for these announcements. Put them all in one thread discreetly. That would make it easier to find as a historical archive, and easier to avoid for those of us who are depressed by the inevitable news.

I saw Jefferson Starship a few years back at AROTR. Paul had to sit on an amp the entire concert, but still smoked a cigarette which he would stick under the strings at the tuning peg area of his guitar!

Distressing news--Signe, the first female singer in Jefferson Airplane, before Grace Slick replaced her, died the same day as Paul Kantner, the Airplane's founder and lead guitarist

We have enshrined the 60's in our minds so much that it's hard to remember it is 50 or more years ago since. All of our young heroes who did so much to change the world back then are now into their 70s and even 80s. Many of us are getting up there too...We can never turn back the hands of time. We can only try to slow it down a little.
