Bears Den--Pompeii...Brit arty folk rock--pretty good RayLamontagne--The Pariah Dogs "Beg Steal and Borrow"--country folk from God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise (2010)--he's got a real nice voice, nice gentle smooth sound with feeling Elle King..."Ex's and Oh's" (Single) she's pretty doggone good (maybe) Southern blues pop and sounds a little like Lulu and Brenda Lee (her voice) Nick Waterhouse "This is a Game"--looks like Buddy Holly and his cd is called "Holly"--fairly catchy early rock from Buddy era, this song has a sax, bongos, steel guitar features a slide at times, organ Nikki Lane "Right Time" from All or Nothing 2014--bluesy country rock, slide guitars, she sounds like too many others, her singing, but the song seems somewhat special and her voice is pleasing Cage the Elephant band "Cigarette Daydreams" song Kentucky band "blew up" in England before making a splash in the U.S.--gotta real nice sound, guitars, piano, drums, male singer's voice is appealing Corinne Bailey Rae Uh Oh I think she died? or her boyfriend or ...got a pleasing bluesy folky "loose" sound, but again sounds like any number of others who can also sing

First Aid Kit "Stay Gold" song from "Stay Gold" cd, 2014, Klara and Joanna girl singers duo, folk/folk rock with country pop tinge--got some talent but not all that distinctive--could possibly listen to their album though Shakey Graves "Dearly Departed" from And the War Came 2014--a bit wild sounding, Southern folk rock & country rock w/touches of blues--funky wailing from back roads, it gets so sad and mournful, Southern soul "You and I both know that the house is haunted" (line) Fly Golden Eagle "Stepping Stone" song from Quartz 2014--"I was born a sinner and a sinner I still remain"--reminds of the Black Crowes--a teeny bit hard rocky...don't dig them much, this song has a depressing heavy ambience and drags on too long Passenger "Scares Away the Dark" from Whispers of Love (2014) British art folk, sounds a bit too same-y Delta Spirit "From Now On" Into the Wide cd 2014---lively somewhat passionate folk rock pop

Grizfolk "Hymnals" single 2014--male "sensitive rock" band with a few heavy touches, sing with a lot of emotion, I like them and this song, influenced by Coldplay but the lead singer's voice on this sounds more appealing Scars on 45 "Crazy for You" from Safety in Numbers 2014, English, male soft rock band has female member--sounds good Ryan Bingham "Radio" song from Fear and Saturday Night 2014--I like this particular song of his--think he was in the movie "Crazy Heart" with his country rock band but not sure Grace Potter and the Nocturnals "Tiny Light" from 2010--have heard them before and like them Father John Misty "Chateau Lobby #4 (In C for 2 Virgins" from I love You Honeybear (2015) arty folk pop all over the place, don't fancy it much, not special enough but it might grow on you Trampled by Turtles "Are You Behind the Shining Star?" from Wild Animals 2014--this song is rousing and pleasing, very emotional and pretty tuneful

Knox Hamilton band "Work it Out" single 2014 from cd "Work it Out" soft rock-ish with feeling, grows more intense as it goes on, they were influenced by Phoenix, Foster the People and Coldplay--reminds you of others but is listenable, and from Little Rock Paolo Nutini "Let me Down Easy" from Caustic Love album 2014--British, has garnered noms, hails from Paisley, Scotland but looks Italian--deeply emotional romance ditty, "his grandfather sparked his interest in music"--he's got a right good bit of talent in a pop/soul/R and B white soul style Always band "Archie, Marry Me" from Always 2014--based in Toronto, girl lead singer in band of another female and three males, influenced by Cranberries and Teagan and Sara when teens, are fans of Mixture, Pavement, Teenage Fanclub--but they are not all that good, unfortunately--Molly (lead) doesn't sing that well and this song does not sound all that tuneful, she calls it "jangle pop" and it is jangly The Amazing (name of band) "Picture You" song from Picture You cd 2015--a haunting, pretty song sounds mournful and thoughtful, reminds you of Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry's crooning

Train "Angel in Blue Jeans" from Bulletproof Picasso cd 2014--have heard this on radio pretty often a few months ago, it's okay, rather a treat, kind of corny Houndmouth "Sedona" from Little Neon Limelight cd (20015)--from California, got a cool neo-country rock sound with hints of blues, recorded an EP in a 150 year old house, they gots some talent...rather a lot Ryan Adams "Stay With Me" from cd "Ryan Adams" 2014 he's pretty good, been around awhile from Raleigh N.C., hung out in downtown Raleigh with Elton John at one time, is divorcing actress/singer Mandy Moore (doesn't want her to stay, looks like) Trigger Hippy--sounds bluesy and funky and Southern, were in the Black Crowes, this "Rise Up Singing" single (2014) pleases to an extent--drags on a bit too long and reminds you of too many other songs. They've got something though Sheppard "Geronimo" from Bombs Away (2014)--am digging this ditty! Would like to hear more of theirs...Sheppard was founded in 2011

"Spoon" band with song "Inside Out" from They Want My Soul (2014) sounds a bit quirky and unusual, have a '07 album called "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga"--hail from Austin Texas--not knocked out by this particular song but it's a bit more than okay Local Natives "Heavy Feet" song from Hummingbird cd (2013)--am loving this song from them, named their debut album "Gorilla Manor"--are all from California except for Matt Frazier from Golden, CO The Black Keys "Fever" from Turn Blue album (2014) they're good--this is, anyway, are a guitar/drums combo and American, planned to record with Ike Turner but he died KONGOS "I Want to Know" rather catchy single from "Lunatic" cd (2014), from London and one was born in South Africa--they're pretty good--a band composed of four brothers. Their father John Kongos is a British singer-songwriter. The band currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona Air "Sing Sang Sung" single from Love 2 (2009)--soft pop song sung by male singer who sounds like a female singer. Their debut album was "Moon Safari" in 2009

Charlie Mars "the Money" single from The Money cd in 2014, he sounds Southern but this is more light funky than new country...isn't really all that country with a slight Jimmy Buffett islands air and he refers to the islands Son Little "The River" from The River cd 2014--funky bluesy but says he loves jazz, this song goes on too long, doesn't sound very unique and different, not at all really Stars "No One is Lost" from "No one is Lost" album of 2014, based in Montreal, sounds like post post New Wave pop with a French feel and Brit Pet Shop Boys ambience and say influences include the Smiths, New Order, Super Furry Animals, and Sam Cooke (!), has a girl in the band. Stars has as toured with Death Cab For Cutie. They all look French Augustana from California "Ash and Ember" song from Life Imitating Life cd 2014--they're good--originally from the Midwest, formed in Greenville Illinois The Decemberists "Make You Better" from What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World album (2015) this is a pretty good song--band is influenced by the Stones, The Replacements, Robyn Hitchcock--they're from Montana

KONGOS are gonna play in Durham. Damn, they're good. Wish I could see them. Pink Flamengos director John Waters is gonna be there too, I see. On another night at Carolina Theater. KONGOS will play Durham Performing Arts Center (Ringo and All Starrs have performed there at least twice). Oh scuse my out of it ness, KONGOS is gonna perform at The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, S.C., not at DPAC. Myrtle Beach is a lot closer to me. I'm in Wilmington now. Carly Simon's son Ben Taylor performed here at a bistro downtown. Nelly will rap at the next Azaela Festival in Wilmington.

It bugs me--lots of new or newish good or great music out there that doesn't make it, doesn't get played, while we have to listen to a lot of crapola on the rad-ee-oh, which isn't nearly "rad" enough--some of the music doesn't even sound like songs to me but then I don't "get" it, I reckon it's a mix of rap hip hop, world music, new style dance music, you know what I mean?--like some of the Nicki Minaj and Black Eyed Peas stuff, Fergie going "Londi--Londi--LONDEE" and such, although I sort of like that part of the song, the beginning.
