SMiLE Session, what do you think?

the year was 2011, and we were given one of the most famous unreleased albums, (sort of)this being what was said to be Brian Wilsons masterpiece, SMiLE.. this was cancelled for its original release in 1967 for a lot of reasons 1. Mike Love hated the project ( well he was not the only one that didn't like the project but he was the one who hated it the most...) im really sorry but I've gotta say I hate him for that, Music should NEVER BE MADE FOR THE MONEY. it should be made to inspire and really say how you feel or someone feels, basically you put care into you work SO IT CAN GET RECGONISED FOR BEING INNOVATIVE DID YOU NOT LEARN THAT IT WAS SUCESSULL THE LAST TIME YOU DID IT WITH PET SOUNDS. sorry but that just annoys me on a level that's uncontrollable. 2. it just kept on getting delayed and held back, annoying capitol quite a lot 3. Sgt pepper already came out, innovating the music scene 4. Brian just completely broke down because of the disliking from the rest of the band and his father. ( in some ways I feel scared because I just see this happening to me if the people I loved hated the work that was said to be your great masterpiece) What do you think of the product we got in the end? ( I don't know much about the 2004 solo version, sorry but I don't mind learning more...) What issues ( if any) do you have with the release? Big question, If this somehow came out before Sgt peppers ( or even after), and if it was completely completed, would this be bigger and more remberd over Sgt peppers? I listened to this album once, I though it was good, didn't really analyse it to much. second listen through I analysed it and not kidding, I just cried. through the whole thing. I saw each bit of musical skill in each song, even though it wasn't finished, it felt like it. ( until you reach the repeat of Heroes and villains on the first disk ) I just have a feeling, that this would of changed absolutely everything. Take The elements : Fire ( Mrs O'Leary's Cow). the song you really shouldn't mention since its said to of caused a fire just down the road from the recording studio the song was being made in... in the same week as the recording... there is so much packed into 2:30 mins. It just blew my mind even more. The innovation on that song . I still haven't completely analysed it yet. Next, Surfs Up. where do I begin? To be honest, its hard to explain in words. and just a quick thing, English is sort of a second language for me but I cant even think of how to say it in Greek either (which I have to say even if I could think of something to say, wouldn't be able to write it...what I will say is the harmony's at the end are just complete gold. no, rhodium ( Aka, the most expensive element in the world) I shall discuss more of the songs but I need to collect the fragments of my brain that just blew up So , lets us discuss. lets try and keep it happy and SMiLEY

I've heard the Smile Sessions and it would have made a fantastic companion to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band if The Beach Boys released it in 1967. There was so much great music that year...the first albums by Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and Pink Floyd, among others. Too bad Brian lost heart about it, Smile is fantastic!

Its really sad seeing some of the videos of brian before the release of SMiLE in 2011... he just is so unsteady and just unsure about it... I guess the whole trauma of the albums past dosnt help him

Smile is an amazing album, I don't own it but have heard all the stuff online, need to download it!! for me Surf's Up is one of the most beautiful pop songs ever, that one does it for me. Cabinessance. and also Heroes and villains, but I'm just mentioning all most known.. the ones the Beach Boys nabbed for their subsequent albums! the lesser known are amazing too, the instrumentation is crazy, and the exactness of the arrangements and playing. and somehow its accessible! because of the melodies. although that's just my opinion. What Brian was doing was like taking his song writing to its creative fullest, and then Spector's production styles of combining instrument sounds to create completely new 'instruments', etc and taking that to the fullest. its just really beautiful imaginative music, I'm a huge Beach Boys/BW fan. I like their album Party! where its recorded to sound like a fake party! just bought that on vinyl, they do a couple Beatles covers on it, Tell Me Why and Should Have Known Better

How's it going Ringo64? I hope all is well with you and your family. I own the SMiLE Sessions and have heard it many times not to mention the dozens of bootlegs that I own of SMiLE prior to its 2011 release. As I've stated in previous threads not to mention that I have spoken on this subject many times before, in my opinion, SMiLE did not live up to its legend or hype. SMiLE came out too many years too late. If SMiLE would have been released in 1966 or 1967, the result would have been different. People, such as myself, put SMiLE on such a big pedestal, that when it was finally released, it became a disappointment. Please don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE BEACH BOYS, I KNEW THE BEACH BOYS, I PARTIED WITH THE BEACH BOYS, I loved everything about them except Mike Love. I HATE MIKE LOVE! The reason why the SMiLE sessions saw the light of day is because Mike Love saw dollar signs for himself. SMiLE was released too late, in my opinion, SMiLE should have stayed unreleased. What do you think Ringo64?
