Just saw in the Village Voice (out tomorrow) The Monkees at the Beacon December 2 Looks like full tour announcement tomorrow Aug 8, Micky, Peter and Mike are hitting the road. While I really wish Mike had toured with them when they were all living I am happy I will finally get to see him.

If you don't mind me asking, what did Davy do in live shows? As I understand, he couldn't play instruments (bar the tambourine).

Yeah on Daydream believer etc and backing vocals, but would he just stand about like Robert Plant when Jimi Page went into one of his solos?

Well, from what I've read, Davy will be included as part of the "multi-media" part of the show, meaning, I guess, films. Unless they do the hologram bit!

Just got my tix for New Brunswick, finally going to see Mike Nesmith, I definitely have mixed feelings since I really wish Mike could have had this change of heart while all 4 were alive but I am excited for the show.

I saw Davy by himself and he put on quite a show. Glad I saw him. Seeing this, would be like a show of Paul and Ringo. It isn't the Monkees without Davy.

I agree but they did quite a few tours without Mike Nesmith and were successful. Just wish they could all do a tour as a whole. Just won't be the same without Davy. He still had a good voice after all these years.

With very few exceptions no live shows have been "The Monkees" since 1968, I am looking at this as an opportunity to see Mike and his songs, luckily I was lucky enough to see the Davy,Micky, Peter incarnation a few times so this should be an opportunity to see a different side of The Monkees.

I was lucky enough to see The Monkees on the 1968 tour. That's quite enough for me.

That must have been a fun show!!! I wasn't even born in 1968 so I couldn't make that one, glad to finally be able to see Nesmith live.

I've very recently gotten into the Monkees big time, I do really regret not liking them much or caring about them until after Davy's passing but that's life I guess. They had some incredible songs some of which stand up with any other 60's artist, Pleasant Valley Sunday, You Told Me, Last Train To Clarksville, Daydream Believer, Listen To The Band, Randy Scouse Git, The Girl I Knew Somewhere etc. I could go on. and I only got into them last week and have been listening obsessively. I think Mike Nesmith is my favourite because there's just something so cool about him and he was the best songwriter and really wanted the group to become a proper band instead of a manufactured band for the label, he wrote some great songs it seems. He also invented MTV, is a pioneer of country rock and his Mum invented White-out! (Tippex) I also like Micky because he seems a nice guy, has a great sense of humour and of course he sang lead on most of the songs. Davy seemed like a great guy as well and I think Daydream Believer may be my favourite song by the Monkees. I hope they announce a few shows in the UK next year!

So after 39 years 1 month and 23 days I finally saw Mike Nesmith perform in concert. Monkeemania invaded New Brunswick, we went for pizza on George Street and the place was full of Monkee fans, there were no ticket drops for the show, if you went into the box office you were told "there is not one seat available" at 7:30 they started running videos of vintage Monkee clips TV commercials they did for Rice Krispies and Kool Aid, along with promos for HEAD and some music vids from the different episodes. At about 8:00 the lights went down and the backing band came out and played an instrumental Monkee medley. The setlist was a great mix of Monkee hits and lesser known album tracks which was perfect for both casual and diehard fans of the group. For "Randy Scouse Git" Micky told the familiar story about going over to England and getting invited to a party thrown by the Royal family or at least the real royal family.......The Beatles. The great thing about this song was if anybody remembers the old video for this song Micky is wearing this serape thing, well it wasn't the original but he put on something similar, that was later revealed to be a table cloth that they cut a hole in (ahhhh those '60's fashions) After a few more songs including an incredible rendition of Papa Nez's "Tapioca Tundra" they ran through the entire HEAD album, to complete the album they played Davy signing "Daddy's Song" on video but the band played the music, they used the great video of Davy in the white and black suits dancing around with Toni Basil (Hey Mickey!!) For "Daydream Believer" Micky explained that the song now belongs to the people so he wanted us to sing it. They picked a woman out of the audience and brought her up to sing the song with the crowd. This was really perfectly handled in my opinion. The crowd was really into the show, almost every song got great applause and you could really tell the majority of the people were fans who knew how special it was to see Mike onstage. Now for my 2 cents on Papa Nez. I was very happy that he was involved in the show and by that I don't mean that he showed up , I mean that he talked and joked and they even had a funny bit where Mike did sound effects for the "missing" Moog Synthesizer during "Daily Nightly" so he truly was a part of the show. All his songs were good and his voice has held up very well. The show was pretty close to perfect in fact the only thing that could have made it perfect was........Davy completing the group. Looks like the UK will be next year (but with these guys who knows) Here is the setlist Last Train To Clarksville Papa Gene?s Blues Your Auntie Grizelda She Sweet Young Thing I?m A Believer (I?m Not Your) Stepping Stone I Wanna Be Free (Davy Video) You Told Me Sunny Girlfriend You Just May Be The One Mary, Mary The Girl I Knew Somewhere For Pete?s Sake Early Morning Blues And Greens Randy Scouse Git Daily Nightly Tapioca Tundra Goin? Down Porpoise Song Daddy?s Song (Davy On Video) Can You Dig It? As We Go Along Circle Sky Long Title: Do I Have To Do This AllOver Again? Daydream Believer (Audience) (What Am I Doin?) Hangin? Round Listen To The Band Pleasant Valley Sunday
