Oh Man! Name That Tune

I'm beat. Frazzled. This was a failed single from 1967 or '68. I think the picture sleeve for the 45 r.p.m. record was white with a checkerboard plaid stuffed elephant that sat upright on its rump. The lyrics were something like either "Have you been, to Africazambi" or "Are you going to Africazami". I mean Zagnuts!! And "Africazambi"...whatever...is also the title of the song. Please note that "Africazambi" is from my foggy memory. The correct word to insert is, as best as I can remember, a horribly difficult name to remember, which is possibly why the record failed to catch on. "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" is a much easier name to remember. But the correct name Definitely begins with the letter "A", and the word might be something like "Aphganazambi" I don't know now. The tune itself was Pop Music, I think almost a show tune-like number with a light rock touch. I remember seeing the picture sleeve at the record store alongside Donovan/"Wear Your Love Like Heaven", so that would be '67-'early '68.

Ahhhh! I've found it by digging through long Internet lists of singles from 1968, even though I tried that before and came back empty handed. And it was not a Plaid Elephant on the picture sleeve. It was A Pink Dog. And it was not "Africazambi" or Zagnuts!, or even "Aphganazambi", The title was nowhere near Africa. It is "Abergavenny" by Shannon a.k.a. Marty Wilde. Abergavenny is in Wales.

A final note about how hard it is to find an obscure song from way back when. I went through this list and did not find the song, probably for being one year too early, but take a look at this list of 227 45's from 1967 and their "peak chart position", and perhaps only one or two of them ("Daydream Believer") did better than the list. Except that song as 45 r.p.m. is on the list for the B-Side ("Going Down") which peaked above 100 and only lasted 2 weeks.
