OK here's a song that Val & I love. It's a VAN MORRISON song, and he covered it with Tom Jones. This is how I recorded it - it took around 3 hours. First, I laid a drum track down using a midi keyboard and Groove Agent. Then I added a piano. On top of that, a hammond organ patch. Then I added some mute guitar stabs, also on keyboard. Then I recorded a live bass, I LOVE the bass line! Then I recorded a live electric guitar. On this, I added keyboard tenor, and baritone saxes. Finally I added my TOM JONES vocal on one side of the stereo, then my VAN MORRISON on the other side of the stereo. I added some gentle reverb, and fat compression to the vocals. I then compressed the mix with Waves L2 maximiser. NO PITCH CORRECTION whatsoever was used on this recording, as pitch correctors don't behave very well with these types of vocal. you and Bjorn got me surprised how easy and how fast you do it. Have you ever considered becoming a producer for other people or so? Here there are people who puts adds in musical websites offering themselves as producers, charging some money for recording a song. Sometimes they're only "producers", sometimes they record instruments the artist can't record. I think you would be perfect for that. Anyway there are very few people that can do it all, it's not easy. I mean composing, arranging, playing, singing and producing.

Hey audi, I'll record that Elvis song in the original key... I have a new recording I've made but I don't know if it belongs here, actually it doesn't belong anywhere . It's not a pop or rock song, and I haven't recorded the background... I could have done the background music with keyboards but it would be kind of crime with such a good arrangement. I'd like to have an orchestra around... but anyway there'll be no room for all of them here where I am.

I've wondered the same thing.

ok, what can I say about this one? First of all vocals are not compressed. That means that you should not turn the loudness up of your loudspeakers much if someone located near you is sleeping. This is one of my fav pieces of music ever. It's a famous opera aria by Puccini . But I'm not gonna sing in a operatic way, (you know "covering" and all that). It's kind of a pop-rock vocal arrangement. I did one take on Wednesday and I've done other this morning. This file is with the whole 2nd take as it is. It has some reverb and that's all, not compressed... I would have had to compress the orchestra too, cause it goes from very quiet to very loud and I think that doesn't make much sense with this music. I guess I'll post a "highly-compressed" version tomorrow anyway. Of course the background is a real orchestra... I didn't take out the noise of the beginning as it reminds of the start of Sgt. Pepper's, when the Beatles mixed classical and pop-rock music. It's not on the original key (D major) but 4 half-tones higher (F sharp major), cause that key was not for me... here it is [NESSUN DORMA[/color">](www.oliversanz.com/nessundorma.mp3]<span style=) If it doesn't belong here, I'll take it away...

I like liberties... improvisation and all that, this is kind of a Bluebird with funky feeling.

Don't ''take it away." Wanna hear you play 'til the lights go down.

Ollie, I think you're a natural baritone. Singing tenor parts is tough.

Thanks. It's Gary that makes this track really work. He anchors the groove of the song.

I've returned to writing my own songs, friends. Here's a sneak-peek into a new one I'm writing with my songwriting buddy, Dan. I'm getting back to my rock side, also. This afternoon, I recorded a rhythm-guitar track, as well as a drum-track. TEARIN' IT DOWN: http://rapidshare.com/files/310428367/Audese___Dan-Tearin__It_Down__Tracks_1-2_Audese_s_acoustic_guitar-drum_program_11-21-2009_.mp3.html Vocals to come. I'm still deciding how ''gritty'' this song should or should not be. Right now, it's sounding kinda' John Mayer'ish -- but that's subject to change. : )

Here is the newest headless video.
Different vocals (and guitar, too) than the mp3 I posted a while ago. I think I like this recording better than the last one, despite the many pops and noises in the record. I feel the vocals are better! -

Are you adding the vocal on top the lead-vocal/gitar track that we're seeing?

I do indeed. Well, first I record the video (guitar) track with my webcam and microphone. There's no singing yet. Then I rip the audio of that recording to Audacity. In Audacity you can add as many (vocal) tracks as you like. Then I take the vocals to Goldwave and add a little bit of reverb (if necessary) or remove some of the hissing. Then all that goes back to Audacity to be saved together with the guitar track. And then I just go to windows movie maker, add the video in there, silence the original guitar only track and add the guitar+vocals track from Audacity (making sure it's more or less synchronised with the finger picking) in there and it's ready. It's a lot more simple than I just made it sound. :

So the first guitar recording (webcam mic) is merely a metronome for the vocals. Smart!

audi:
So the first guitar recording (webcam mic) is merely a metronome for the vocals. Smart!
In the very beginning I just recorded the whole thing with my digital camera and I sang at the same time of playing.
Which was absolutely horrible because the second something went wrong with my singing I had to re-play the whole song. Which is why in Yesterday you can hear that I messed up the lyrics at 0:38, it has to be "yesterday" and I was singing "I believe", I quickly corrected it but you can still hear it. But I uploaded this anyway because I didn't want to play the whole song over and over again (it was probably already my 10000th take or something : ) Plus I got the comment that the guitar kind of drowned out the vocals, which is absolutely true in this case. So then I started thinking about a solution for that problem. Since no one is seeing my head I don't have to make my vocals sound and look synchronised to the movement of my mouth either, that's a plus. But the first guitar recording on my webcam is also the recording you see on the video, so the guitar is played "live" at least. Only the vocals are added later. -
