the Nilsson thread

So check this out.. another thing I just heard when listening to the Beatles Anthology 3.. Paul?s version of Rocky Racoon? at the 3:08 mark, start this clip
You hear how he does that little 'gotta get up, gotta get out, gotta get home..' or whatever? Now the crazy thing is I know Harry was invited by the Beatles to sit in the White album sessions.. I?m wondering if he might have picked up the seed of his song Gotta Get Up, from that little bit of riffing Paul was doing!? Or maybe Paul did more of it than it shows on the anthology track. Veerrrrrry interesting (not really) Harry?s Gotta Get Up, from Nilsson Schmilsson Mind you, Nilsson Schmilsson was released in 1971.. but there is a demo version of Gotta Get Up from 1968! I think I may be on to something here Harry?s love for Paul?s music cracks me up. the man knew his shit -
Hey Kapoo...or anyone... The 'everybody put their socks up' line... Who's line was it first?..Harry or Lennon?
-
I have to say Lennon's cause I'm not aware of Harry using that lyric? What song are you thinking of Blue? wanna hear some sweet Nilsson yodeling :
yodelayhee yodelayhee yodelayhee DOWN. deeper than the deepest ocean. deeper than the deepest ocean can go you know I'm goin down. -
somebody:
one song jumped up and punched me in the face, upon initial listening.. Save The Last Dance For Me. There is so much rhythm in that track, Harry?s timing and phrasing and vocal subtleties are impeccable. and - in her arms - you?re gon - na be? oh darling, - save the last - dance - for - me? And John?s rhythmic horns arrangement, towards the end of the song, by around 2:30, it has built into this like mechanical rhythm enhancer.. Save The Last Dance For Me - John produced/arranged the song, Ringo drums on it too!
I didn?t realize the Beatles had been interested in covering ?Save The Last Dance For Me?.. never had heard this clip from the abandoned ?Get Back? album.. looks like it was a bit from the roof top gig
Also, I?m really starting to like Michael Buble. yes I know I pretty late to the party at this point? I think he?s been around about 10 yrs! if not longer.. but the guy is just such a great singer, and he has such a classic taste in music. His is a very true to form cover with that latin vibe Harry (or John) took it and slowed it down and made it sneer a bit You can dance every dance with the guy who gave you the eye let him hold you tight? -
Here?s a funny one you guys should hear.. sort of McCartney-esque ragtime ditty, all about reefer paranoia. I like the bit about the ?unmarked plymouth?..
Fair Fax Rag Do you have to look away when you pass by the diner where the squad car stops for coffee? Don?t you wish that you were anyplace else but here? Don?t you feel kinda funny when a man in a suit says ?Man do you know where I can get high?? Don?t you wish that you were anyplace else but here? Take a walk down any street that you choose Yeah and you?ll wind up with the Fair Fax Street mid morning paranoia blues Do you have to look away when you pass by the diner where the squad car stops for coffee? Don?t you wish that you were anyplace else but here? Do you grab a cigarette when a man in an unmarked Plymouth pulls you over just to say? hi?? Don?t you wish that you were Anyplace else but here? And do you fumble in your wallet while you?re looking for your license And he tells you not to talk with your mouthful Don?t you wish that you were anyplace else Don?t you wish that you were anyplace else Don?t you wish that you were anyplace else but here? Waa Waa Waaa!! -
Cmon, lets go for a drive

Such a great circle of friends Harry had. He was the ultimate in crowd guy. plus he partied with everyone! I have more pics of him and people, will post them some time. You been listening to any cool Nilsson stuff lately Jordan? I'm loving the 'Knnilssonn' album, been hooked (pardon the pun) on that one for a while. Thats my most recent vinyl pick up! The only ones I still need are Flash Harry, and the original Pandemonium Shadow Show. I love my Nilsson collection
-
I only have a greatest hits album, I really dig those upbeat songs like 'The Puppy Song', 'Good Old Desk' and 'Cuddly Toy'. The more melancholy songs like 'One' and 'Without you' (originally by the great band Badfinger) - he can pretty much pull it all off.

Man, Harry Nilsson is one of my personal heros! think about it; he was a successful recording artist who never toured. One of my personal heros in life
