I played the live album "Band of Gypsys" a couple of days ago. I have that one, "First Rays of the New Rising Sun" and "Are You Experienced" on 180 gram vinyl, reissued in 1997. They sound great. I have a pretty extensive Hendrix collection, LP's, CD's. I've mostly stopped going to concerts (except Paul Simon earlier this year, hadn't seen him before), but if Jimi Hendrix woke up from the grave and re-entered stage I'd be on the front row.

^^ agree on that one! I would do my best to get backstage if Jimi were alive.

His version of All Along The Watchtower is an all-time 60's classic! He's one of the few musicians whose live recordings are as good or better than his studio recordings. The fact that his estate keeps finding new stuff to release 40 or more years after his passing is mind-boggling.

Yeah, I agree, he was more like a jazz musician and liked to use the concert for improvisation. I have read that he just thought it was annoying to have to play hits. He felt that it stagnated him as a musician and was a waste of time. He thought the audience should come to listen to him, not vice versa.

The Jimi Hendrix show at the Forum on 26 April 1969 may very well be Jimi's greatest performance! I know that there are many great live Hendrix shows but the one I mentioned sounds incredible! The almost 16 minutes of "Tax Free" just kicks a*s!
