I love vinyl records! Which I suppose is a little strange considering i'm 16 and most people my age are listening to low quality compressed mp3 downloads but to me vinyl has a warm sound to it that nothing else (including CD's) can match. Talk about anything to do with vinyl/record's that you want. Your favourite records, recent purchases etc. I got an original 1965 mono copy of HELP! yesterday!

I'm with you here MaccaBeatles I am a big fan of vinyl. I try to get eveything in this format and just enjoy playing them and listening to them and staring at the album sleeves for hours it sounds so much better on vinyl. music that is. the last 3 LP's I bought were Nilsson's Aerial Pandemonium Ballet, Zepplin 1, and Bowie's Young Americans. This is a sweet place I found to get vinyl http://www.platterpus.com/ mostly used but in great shape, and extremely good deals. check it out. you can order online via this site, or you can go there by appointment. its a total diggers paradise. they have a warehouse ful of ridiculous collections. its literally amazing. I saw a mint WOA 6 side set for $5 last time I was there. I shit you not. I already own it yet almost bought it again on sheer principle. vinyl's where its at for sure.

The White Album and Abbey Road are two that to my ears only sound listenable to on vinyl. White is clean and grungey, a hard feat to pull off, and Abbey has that soft-core, bluesy vibe that's annihlated on CD. White Album is my fave album on vinyl but I never listen to it on CD.

I'm 16 too and I love vinyl! I listern to vinyl more than cds cause I think music sounds better on vinyl. I agree that it does give a warm sound to the music. I've got a few Beatles albums on vinyl and hoping to get Sgt. Pepper when my exams are finished! I've got a lot of Simon and Garfunkel and U2 on vinyl as well and loads of other stuff. Well done on getting an original copy of Help! Glad to know that someone else my age appreciates vinyl as much as I do!

Just ordered vinyl copies of Paul Weller's new single "Find the Torch, Burn the Plans" (due out on Monday). There's two vinyl singles of the song, both with different b-sides taken from the BBC gig I attended of his last month. I love vinyl, but mainly tend to collect special vinyl releases rather than buy it routinely. I then store them away as collectors' items - and occassionally take them out to admire them and look at the sleeves occasionally - anorak, I know! My old record player is rather old now, so I mainly listen to CDs. Miss putting the stylus on a new record and the sound you got from vinyl though.

Glad to know you guys agree! I normally use amazon.co.uk but often the best place to find hidden gems are at used charity shops or car boot sales. I found a copy of The Jam's Sound Affects from there for a £1!

I love vinyl. I used to work in a record store when CD's were first coming out in the 80's. I saw the transition to CD's and saw vinyl LP's get phased out by the record companies. I am so jazzed for the new resurgence of records again, and I love going to a good record store. Three good ones in So. Cal. are Record City in San Diego, Cow Records in Ocean Beach, and the awesome Amoeba Records in Hollywood (yup, the same Amoeba where Paul did his Secret Show in 2007). My latest buys were a couple weeks ago at a thrift store in Grass Valley California where I picked up three albums in Excellent condition for $2.00 each. They are Joni Mitchell - Hejira, Doobie Brothers - Living on the Fault Line, and Ten Years After - Positive Vibrations. Not a scratch on any of 'em. Tips to keep your vinyl LP's collectible. ALWAYS keep them clean and your fingers off the playing surface. Handle only by the edges. Use a dry vinyl brush to clean off dust before you play them. Keep solvents to a minimum, use liquids only to clean really dirty records. To protect the albums get poly bag inner sleeves, and to protect the covers keep them in plastic outer sleeves. If you do these things they will still be perfect 30-40 years later and you'll make a bundle on eBay!

I really need to start cleaning my records.. they get dirty, dust and fingerprints.. need to get the supplies and get on it beatlesfanrandy, I actually picked up a 10 Years After album not too long ago but haven't really gotten into it. A Space In Time is the title. How is that band? The cool thing about vinyl is it seems like whatever is interesting about the music and band is just more obvious when you have the album. all the little extras, writings on the cover, sleeve, posters, etc. Like I bought the Nilsson/Ringo Son Of Dracula album, and as soon as I looked I saw it was released on an Apple/RCA joint venture : label called Rapple. you guys heard of this? I believe this album was the only one ever released on the label. awesome album btw, that A side has 3 of perhaps my top 10 Nilsson songs on it; Daybreak, Moonbeam, At My Front Door.

i recently found, in my brother's vinyl record collection, the Beatles album i got on my 17th birthday (1970), with, of course, "I Saw Her Standing There" on it. the album cover was well-worn, but the vinyl seems to have done okay - and i'm just SO EXCITED that it still exists!!!!

I'm 18 and bought a record player a couple of months ago to play some beatles LPs and 7" i acquired earlier. I have Rubber Soul ('69 reissue), Sgt Pepper's ('80's reissue), original presses of the red and blue albums (in mint condition, and sounding much better than the CD). Also visited my local record shop last week and bought Wing's London Town, and the Rolling Stones Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) for £1 each!! Am tending to buy singles on vinyl now as opposed to CD (I've never downloaded!). Started with Paul Weller's No Tears To Cry, which are individually numbered on the back and in a limited edition. Recently purchased Katie Melua, The Flood on 7" vinyl, personally signed from her website. Have a pile of old singles which were my Mum and Dad's, some of them were in a right state! Just had them cleaned by a record collector I know, and they are now sounding brilliant! Nice to see so many other people supporting the vinyl format! Just need my local HMV to start stocking all of the singles on vinyl now!

The Beatles kept vinyl alive. I've got The Beatles 1, LOVE and The Anthology 2 and 3 on Vinyl LP. They were only made in Europe on high quality vinyl, and they are far superior to the CD versions. The Anthology's are triple albums too! The covers alone and the packaging on these is amazing, especially 1 with the huge poster and the 4 Avedon 8 x 10 photos. Sweet!

Oh yeah, I also have on vinyl the imports of Past Masters and Live at the BBC, and Let It Be...Naked with book and extra 45, and some DMM's (Direct Metal Masters) of a few of the original Beatles albums. . Also McCartney's latest double vinyl Fireman: Electric Arguments, Memory Almost Full, and Chaos and Creation too. Lots of other Beatles and Macca and more, too. I love the vinyl, but that was the format I grew up with. I'll take a 12" album cover over a CD booklet anyday! That's a great price on eBay for all 3, esp. sealed! I'd like to get Anthology 1 vinyl someday and complete the set.

First get a record player. Then find a music store in your area that sells new or used records. There are tons of listings on eBay too. Be careful of quality and read the listings carefully.

If vinyl albums weren't so much more expensive than CD albums I'd be inclined to buy all albums on vinyl. At the moment I usually buy singles on vinyl, and look out for second hand, but good condition vinyl LPs in record shops, car boots, markets etc. You can pick up some real bargains sometimes!!
