Anyone remember an 80s band called Scarlet Party, fronted by brothers Graham and Steven Dye and featuring Dave Gilmour's brother Mark on guitar? Sean Heapy made up the line-up on drums. Their music was reminiscent of the Beatles and they also recorded at Abbey Road and had their singles released on Parlophone! They had two great singles, notably 101 Damnations in 1982 which made no.44 in the UK singles chart. The follow-up Eyes of Ice sadly only made No.77 as EMI allegedly decided to concentrate their PR on promoting new signings Kajagoogoo instead. The band were dropped and split up a year or two later. Great loss to the music industry imho. Graham Dye has a great voice, very Lennonesque and they wrote some good songs. Sadly the album the band recorded "Scarlet Skies" was never released by EMI. I'd love to get hold of a copy. Their drummer was selling copies a few years back, but I don't know how to get hold of one now. If anyone knows please let me know, I've been after a copy for years. Anyway here's the links. See how good they were for yourselves! 101 Damnations:

      Eyes of Ice:
The B-sides were good too, but they're not on You Tube yet. You can get 101 Damnations on a few compilations albums and it's available to download as a single track on Amazon (see post below). After the band split up, Alan Parsons and Eric Wolfson gave Graham Dye work on vocals on various songs on their Alan Parsons Project albums. All of these were incredibly Beatley too. Not surprising as Alan Parsons once worked as an engineer with the Beatles. Light of the World (from the album Stereotomy, Graham Dye lead vocals with brother Steven on backing vocals) -
Press Rewind (from the album The Time Machine, lead vocal - Graham) -
One Day To Fly (about the history of manned flight, from the album On Air. Lead vocal - Graham) -
Little Hans (from the album Freudiana, lead vocal - Graham) -
In recent years Graham and Steven have toured as "Words and Music Lennon/McCartney" playing their interpretations of Beatles songs. According to Wikipedia they recently re-recorded 101 Damnations with Phil Collins on drums, although this hasn't been released.

You can find out more about the band at this archived website here: http://scarletparty.relocution.com/ I'd read somewhere that they performed at Abbey Road at an event attended by Paul himself, but can't find that on the web any more. Not sure what the event was now, but it would have been sometime between 82 and 84. Anyway I hope you enjoy the you tube links.

See what you mean! I enjoyed that, thanks. Wouldn't have been out of place on "With the Beatles". The guitar playing is very George Harrison circa 1963.

You know, Birthday, I just happened upon this thread and had to marvel cause you had posted that song 101 Dam nations on the Chain, and I couldn't get over how much Graham Dye, sounded and even kinda looks like John : I sort of figured that was pretty much the consenses and your writing here confirmed that of course. Great song , and yes, very Beatley!!

Glad you liked it, Claudia. He does sound very Lennonesque, doesn't he! Hope you enjoyed the other tracks with Alan Parsons too. I think it was a huge loss to the music industry that Scarlet Party were dropped by EMI in favour of some five-minute=wonder teeny-bop techno group. I think they could have gone on to make some great records.
