I was reading up on this and the anniversary was actually on August 25th. Hard to believe it's been that long. Door To Door would be the last album to feature all five members of the Cars. They did make another album, Move Like This, back in 2011 but original bassist/singer Benjamin Orr had passed away from pancreatic cancer back in 2000. Door To Door seems to be one of those albums that a lot of Cars fans either don't like very much or they're dismissive of it. Personally, I like the album. It has, hands down, more song variety than any other Cars album. It has a couple of quirky, fun songs like Leave Or Stay and Ta Ta Wayo Wayo, an angsty, edgy song called Double Trouble, a country (!) song, Everything You Say, a couple of what may be called more of the classic style Cars songs, You Are The Girl and Strap Me In and it also has what may be one of the first, if not *the* first "chill out" type song called Fine Line. It's the type of song that makes more sense at 3 A.M. than 3 P.M. If you've heard it you'll know what I mean. There's also Coming Up You which is the type of innocuous nice sounding song that sounds like it could be played in a mall. Funnily enough a few years ago when I was walking through a mall I heard that song. There's a very good song called Go Away sung by Benjamin Orr. It has a dreamy semi-melancholy feel to it and it really should have been a hit single. A ballad called Wound Up On You, which, while not being at the same level as a song like Drive, is still a decent song. The album closer and title song Door To Door can only be described as "hard core". A very fast song played with an aggressive attitude and it features one of the wildest guitar solos that Elliot Easton ever did. On a personal note I was sad when the Cars broke up after that album but there are circumstances as to why that happened. All in all, besides the personal issues, in hindsight I think they actually broke up at the right time. The quality of rock and pop music seemed to be going down and I couldn't see the Cars going through the grunge era. FWIW Ric Ocasek was still making solo albums in the 90's and he seemed to be carrying on the Cars legacy. Here's a website where you can read more about the issues the Cars were having towards the end: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/the-cars-door-to-door-album/

Hey, I was there as well but I saw them in 1980. I wouldn't see them in concert again until 2011 at The Docks in Toronto. The only Cars album I don't really care for is Panorama. I liked the first three songs but the rest don't do much for me. Just my opinion.

You're correct it was 1980. We were sitting 2 rows from the back. They didn't have video monitors in those days. Exhibition Stadium wasn't a very good venue but I saw some big acts there like Bowie, Supertramp, Heart, The Who as well Paul McCartney in '93 which was the last concert I saw there.

Wow, I was probably about 10 rows from the back and I was also at Pauls concert in 1993 and like you, it was also the last concert I saw at that venue. BTW I was checking out some more information online and I literally laughed out loud when I saw the Cars being photobombed. The expressions on Benjamin Orrs and particularly David Robinsons faces are just priceless. Here's the link: http://theconcertdatabase.com/sites/theconcertdatabase.com/files/cars.jpg

I have all of The Cars' albums as well as the greatest hits collections. I've always loved the songs "Just What I Needed," "Good Times Roll," "You're All I've Got Tonight," "Shake It Up," "Since You're Gone," "Drive," "Magic" and "Hello Again" just to name a few.

Their music is very unique, you can tell its The Cars just by hearing their music.

                                  THE CARS RULE!

                                  They're a very good band.

I have all of them as well *except* for their greatest hits but I do have the Cars Anthology which has all of their hits as well as some rarities, B sides and demos. So what do you think of the Door To Door album? As I said in the original post, a lot of Cars fans seem to either not care for it too much, or they're dismissive of it.

Their music is very unique, you can tell its The Cars just by hearing their music.

I listened to the album for the first time on Spotify over the weekend. I enjoyed a few tracks like Double Trouble & Fine Line. Perhaps a 1.5 star from Allmusic was a bit harsh.

Hi Rockerdude! What are you up to? Yes its a bit harsh for Allmusic to give a 1.5 Star especially when The Cars' music kicks a*s!

All is fine here in my neck of the woods; just workin' for the man. I hope all is well w/ you in River City & that you're above water. Cheers!

Sorry I didn't get your comment Rockerdude!

Ah, sh*t happens! San Antonio has been spared, its above water! Many Texas cities weren't so lucky though, its a bad situation down here in Texas! With Hurricane Irma coming our way, no telling what's going to happen. THE CARS RULE!
