Spirit sues Led Zeppelin for Plagiarism???
-
They say that Stairway To Heaven sounds too much like their earlier song Taurus. But, with a name like SPIRIT and a song called TAURUS...Who did they copy those from? https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/04/12/led-zeppelin-members-face-trial-in-stairway-to-heaven-copyright-infringement-lawsuit/

Should have been filed approx. 35 or more years ago!

Thank you Andy_Shofar!!! Why are they (Spirit) waiting till now to file a Lawsuit? I have heard both songs and while they both do sound alike, the statute of limitations should have expired years ago. Evidently, Spirit has won the last two rounds and is now headed for trial!! I have read so much about this story that it would take me a long while to type up a comment. I've read this in a book, to make it short, that Randy California gave Jimmy Page permission to use the chords from Taurus.

LZ has a long history of blatantly plagiarizing songs. They may have had their strengths, but at the same time, they were bloody thieves.

The way it looks, Spirit is going to win! Why else would a judge grant a trial 35 years later? It doesn't look like Statute of Limitations are in effect here.

It'll probably go the same way the case about 'Whole Lotta Love' went back in 1985 - Zeppelin end up paying out of court and the credits of the song from now on are adjusted to include Randy Wolfe's name. Page/Plant aren't keen on dragging the Zeppelin name through the mud (and the courts) so can see them taking the easy way out again.

Yes. Here is an article of 7 songs they ripped off: http://www.musictimes.com/articles/6250/20140520/7-songs-other-than-stairway-to-heaven-that-led-zeppelin-stole.htm If you listen to Spirit's song it is obvious. I heard that years ago.

Very true johnnymain! Was there also a case on "Bring It On Home" and "The Lemon Song?"

I wonder if the attorney's will bring up the fact that "Stairway To Heaven" has the lyric "Satan" if you spin the Vinyl backwards.
-
"Stairway To Heaven" is basically a love song to Lucifer. Play it backwards, kiddies.
-
Here's an excellent breakdown by an excellent guitar player...
Of, course there's Johnny Rivers with Summer Rain (196 that sounds similar as well. It also mentions Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at 1:00 -
I'm beginning to think that ALL 70's music was stolen from Johnny Rivers! Secret Agent Man (1966)
-
In his book, Chronicles, Bob Dylan admits to liking Johnny Rivers' version of Positively 4th Street better than his own. Rivers' Anthology album is a great compilation.

AC/DC wrote their love song to Lucifer in 1979, "Highway to Hell!"

He's not the first and he definitely won't be the last!! It looks like the song "Have a Cigar" by Pink Floyd would be a good song to listen to in regards to the music business.

I believe that was the case, yes. Page and Plant have admitted to "borrowing" stuff before but as Plant once said, "You only get caught when it's successful!".
