Mike Love Rolling Stone Article

Recent Rolling Stone article on Mike Love, I enjoyed it especially the woe is me why does everyone hate me parts. The first time I saw Brian Wilson in concert was at the Beacon Theatre in NYC back in 1999, before the show they showed a video of different people talking about Brian, everytime Mike showed up on the video the whole crowd booed......loud (haha) http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/the-ballad-of-mike-love-20160217

"Love and Mercy," the excellent bio pic about Brian Wilson, depicted his cousin Mike Love as a pill (and not a good kind of pill) who complained, disrupted Beach Boys recording sessions, acted grouchy and sought to prevent Brian from composing more arty complex music, progressions from what Mike termed Brian's "feel good" stuff like "Help Me Rhonda," and "I Get Around," etc. I saw a picture of Mike posed with Jane Asher and Pattie Boyd at the India ashram! Cute photo

I can't speak to all that stuff as I only spent a very short time with him in 1978. The only thing I know is that he didn't party with the rest of the band after the concert. He went somewhere else by himself.
I was waiting for you to comment Nancy!!! It would be difficult for you to describe his bad side seeing that you are a female. I saw Mike's bad side from the first moment we met!! I HATE MIKE LOVE!!!

The article certainly makes him out to be just a bitter old man. TM has not helped him in that it seems.

Well, from the article: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/the-ballad-of-mike-love-20160217
"My cousin Brian loved the studio, but I like performing," he says.
Did something happen to Brian? Why is Mike speaking in past tense? Has he already written Brian off? How cool is That? EDIT: Hey. We need more of that feel-good music. And understand something. I like this recording. But is it still performed live anymore? And what is the difference as far as Brian's direction?

When he speaks of Brian in the past I assume he is talking about the '60's and '70's when they recorded together.

I considered that possibility, that Mike is referring to the 6o's. Bit Mike is referring to Brian in past tense while in the same sentence Mike is referring to Mike and live performance in the present tense.

Just a mistake in tense. He should have said that Brian always liked the studio and he (Mike) always liked performing more. (if he wanted to speak about the past) Sound like anyone else we know?

In an article that makes Mike Love sound like the bad guy, Mike Love complains that people are trying to make him the bad guy.

I'm sure there are at least five sides to this story. Brian's, Carl's, Dennis's, Mike's and Al's. Unfortunately Carl and Dennis are no longer with us. I got to meet all of them except Brian (plus Bruce Johnston) and only Dennis was a douche.

I don't know the second thing about this guy, but if he's trying to improve his image, doing that interview was a bad idea.

That's too bad you had that experience with him. I wonder if he treats a lot of guys like that. Me, being a girl, had quite the opposite impression.

Nancy, I'm so sorry that I have to talk bad about Mike seeing that you were great friends with him. However, Mike is an a*shole!!! I'm just one of MANY, that Mike has treated like sh*t!! Perfect example, page 128 of the book entitled "The Story Of Brian Wilson's Lost Masterpiece SMiLE," it goes like this as follows: "One day Mike love dropped by the studio to check us (Three Dog Night) out said Negron. The vibes changed immediately. To me, Mike seemed arrogant, self-serving guy, and when he walked in, it was if a black cloud had suddenly surrounded Brian. I figured I would try to break the tension. Mike was wearing an expensive cashmere overcoat, and I (Negron) said, Wow, that's a beautiful jacket. Mike turned towards me (Negron) and in a condescending tone, answered, Well, you just keep trying to do the right thing and maybe you'll get one too man." Now tell me Nancy, that was totally uncalled for wasn't it? Mike is an arrogant person, you're one of the lucky ones that he treated good. Then again, you're a pretty woman, Mike Love loves pretty women!!!

I'm not disagreeing with you. He probably was/is an a-hole to a lot of guys. And of course that remark was uncalled for. Funny you mention Chuck Negron. A girl (age 32) who I work with was on the road with him 8 years ago as a cello player! We just talked about it yesterday! She said he was a great guy!

Chuck Negron's a great guy, I met him and Danny Hutton years ago through Brian!!! Chuck and I both talked about what an a*shole Mike is, we both came to the same conclusion. That is so cool that you work with a woman that worked with Negron on the road as a cello player, its even more cool that she's an RN!!!
