I've heard as much. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch this documentary yet, but I've heard some things about it, and from what it sounds like, yeah, Let It Be is a Disney movie compared to this one.

I don't wanna spoil it, but my favorite part is when Lars says the f-bomb to James ... over and over and over.

I lost a lot of respect for Lars over the whole Napster thing, not because I have something against bands earning money for their music, but because he was such a...douche, for lack of a better word, about the whole thing. I'm hoping James punches him in the mouth a few times.

They talk about the Napster thing, too -- and the film includes footage of that cartoon making fun of Lars. They laughed at themselves. I also enjoyed the segment where they were strong-armed by a radio station to record cheezy promo-spots in order to get St. Anger promised airplay -- their biting, bitter ad-libs were hilarious.

I saw SKOM in the theater back in I think 2004 , I am not a big Metallica fan past the first three albums but I did enjoy the movie. My favorite scene was when Lars and Dave Mustaine met up in a hotel room.

By the way, I'm curious: How many albums did Metallica did without bass-guitar?

I suppose that it could be one of those "urban legends." I found an interesting discussion on the lack of bass on And Justice For All: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f19/no-bass-metallicas-justice-all-204011/

Jason recorded bass for And Justice, but it is all but mixed out. When they recorded St. Anger they did not have a bass player in the band. Bob Rock plays bass on that album. Maybe that is what you were thinking of.

I'm not sure how I came to the false realization that their first two or three albums had no bass at all -- just the singer/riff-guitarist, lead-guitarist and Lars on drums. I must be getting old.
