The Zombies were VERY impressive. Such a truly tight live group, with a back catalog that I think everyone has forgotten about! There was never a dull point in the show. They played early zombies hits and not hits, a miniature Odyssey and Oracle Suite, a few Colin Blunstone solo songs, and a few Argent hits...and an unusually large amount of early 60's US black R&B songs! Colin Blunstone's voice is still in very good shape and has maintained his unique style from the 60's...Rod Argent's playing is better than EVER! Blew me away...the main reason I was there really! Also, the opening act "Et Tu Bruce" was from Britain as well, as they feature The Zombie's original bassist's son as their frontman. Pretty interesting, and I do recommend them...it was their first US gig...ever!!! Very small venue too...like, smaller than a movie theatre...these guys deserve a lot more than they get...especially when tix were only $20!! If you get the chance, GO! They're still very early on in their US tour.

^They are really good live. I saw them last summer and the energy and set-list was quite amazing. Small venue too - I was at the front and Rod smiled in my direction when he noticed a young one (relatively speaking) knew all the words. -- Since posting here last, I got tickets to see Billy Joel in November. I'm also going to see Skid Row and Ugly Kid Joe that same month as well.

Next up for me is this sunday, Happy Together Festival at Wolf Trap...The Turtles, Chuck Negron, Gary Pucket & The Union Gap, Mark Lindsay (The Raiders), Gary Lewis & The Playboys...I've been reading some pretty crappy reviews about the song choices and the sound balance...but I'll try and go in with good vibrations!

Blondie last night. Had fun at the show, good band and great vocals. Chris and Clem are still in the band, Clem's drumming rocked, playing Ringo-esque 'The End' solo's in the encore. Hits in the set included 'Call Me', 'One Way Or Another', 'Heart of Glass', 'Maria, 'Atomic' and 'The Tide Is High'. Some new songs were performed, one of those being 'Rave' and it was one of my favourite tracks performed (never heard it before, new album is due out soon), here's a live recording from a few days ago if anyone's interested:

looking forward to hearing the studio version.

Cheers! Yeah, I think Ugly Kid Joe disappeared for a while there, but now they seem to have a new album coming out. Might check that out.

Overall, the Happy Together show at Wolf Trap was really great last night!!! I'll give ya the run down of the evening... Gary Lewis- His voice is gone...more of a nasal drone at this point. However, seems to be a very nice and down to earth guy. Felt kinda bad that he had to talk about his father three times because of audience shout outs. He did 8 songs in 20 minutes. Mark Lindsay- A ball of FIRE! He's hilarious and entertaining and still sounds like he did in the 60's on record. He didn't have the full "rader" regalia on...but he did have a converted bathrobe to resemble his jacket of those days. He 7 songs in 30 minutes. Gary Puckett- Let's get it out there...he was getting on my nerves last night. He is trying so hard to sound like his old self that it just comes out as this nasty forced vibrato garbage. He had this glitzy Vegas jacket and actually encouraged the audience to applaud for himself several times. Also, I appreciated the song he did for the veterans but he really milked it and stretched out his speech. I feel like the veteran thing is becoming a fad...especially at concerts in the DC area. Chuck Negron- Despite being out of it and losing his train of thought A LOT (couldn't really tell if it was an act either...) Chuck sounds GREAT! He's hilarious too..."Eli's Coming" absolutely blew me away. Maybe the best song of the whole night...I haven't seen "Three Dog Night" but I'd imagine he sounds more like Three Dog Night than they do... The Turtles- They came out in glitter and glasses doing "Gangman style" then bashed the hell out of it and jumped into "She'd Rather Be With Me"...ROCK ON! They sounded great and were truly hilarious. It's obvious they have comedy routines involved in the show. Only line that bugged me was when they were talking about The Beatles and the one says...but The Beatles aren't playing HERE! And the other goes...well, Ringo might be... ops: The encore was a medley of each artist's biggest hit and it was very tastefully done concluding of course with...Happy Together. See this tour if you can! Barely a third of the way through SIXTY dates!!!

Good write up as usual WR. SO. The Who 'Quadrophenia and more' last night. I never usually get good seats for arena shows but was lucky with this one, could see the whites of their eyes To start us off, the support band: Vintage Trouble. They gave a good performance and are a good opener because they brought loads of energy, bluesy/souly kinda music -

Moving on to The WHO, it was a fantastic show. I always thought Roger would be the chatty one but it was Pete actually. Roger's voice got really into it later in the set, especially on that supersonic scream in 'Won't get fooled again'. The whole stage set was nice too, screens with various mod stuff floating by in the background, although Roger explained that its normally bigger but it's all they could fit in our arena (seats 5,000 seating and 7,500 standing, and it was seated). Some highlights include: Pete doing loads of windmills then looking at the audience with a crazed look on his face. Roger swinging his microphone and hitting the stage and mouthing 'F%@£ Off' Lovely guitar playing from Pete, amazing encore of classics too, the audience were going mad. Tea and Theatre to finish it was nice, just Roger, Pete and his acoustic on stage performing that one. Really hope they come around again! 10/10.

If you're into them, why not? Pete said he wanted to do Quadrophenia like this (with the big screens etc) one last time and he had to 'nag' Roger to come and do it. This was the first arena tour they've done in a while, looking at the archive it's normally a few stadiums/royal albert hall stuff per year.
