I found Mark Knopfler much in the same vain, not much talking but it was all about the playing a night to sit and listen along rather than singing my head off its nice for a change i suppose

I seen him live about five years ago with a drummer and bass player maybe the same guys,, you are correct about the stage presence and lack of talking , but boy can he play that Stratocaster !!!! when slides or plays it normal. I also have a cd of JOHN HIATT and him with those two guys, drummer & bass it is very good..... ERIC CLAPTON speaks very highly of him,, and SONNY has been invited to play at the last two CROSSROADS CONCERTS,,,, that tells me some thing about his ability.....

this is for wixs rocks or anyone that knows music..... I have a question; why does paul macca not use horn players live in his concerts like he did with the WINGS BAND ?? it adds a lot more to some of his songs or most of them!!! I know he would not want them to play some of the songs...... but I think it is a good thing for some bands....

My guess is money, simple as that Wix and his box of tricks can do pretty much anything a horn player can do,tours are there to make money at the end of the day and frankly why pay for something they've got?

I guess you are correct,, WIXS does get a lot of sounds out of those key boards,, and if PAUL thinks it sounds good then they go with that :

Nail on the head...very rarely he'll have a small string section guest with him...I'm reminded of "Yesterday" at Outside Lands this summer...and the Roundhouse Show in '07..."Eleanor Rigby" and "Calico Skies"...maybe more?

I'm considering John Mayer later in the fall. I'm guessing that his vocal-cord surgery went OK and that he can sing again?

So after a little break my concert year continued with Roger Waters and The Wall on monday night, quite, quite stunning more a "show" than a concert but it is stunning an absolute assault on you from all sides not for the faint of heart thats for sure but an experience i will never ever forget. So onto Tuesday night and another date with Rod Stewart, and given i saw him back in june he was superb, funny and in fine voice ripping along at a hell of a pace a wonderful contrast to Mondays proceedings the echo arena was frankly jumping last night, indeed he gave great credit to the crowd's vocals on Maggie Mae in particular,a great night but shattered now and in need of a little rest before fleetwood mac next month.

                                    Holly Days:

9/12 - Lennon Remembered w/ Bob Gruen, Jack Douglas & Bettye LaVette

Just had to pop in here and mention this show last week..... it was really enjoyable! Theatre Within, an organization here in NY that, among other things, throws an annual benefit show in John's honor, put this evening at City Winery on. I'll admit I was a little less than impressed by the fellow who MC'd the evening's events, despite him clearly being a nice guy and a huge Lennon fan. I just didn't think he was a good fit considering the calibre of guests. And what guests! Bob Gruen - I assume everyone on here knows his work and he told some nice stories about the years he spent with John & Yoko. He's done it all, seen it and photographed it! Also talked about the evening he hung out at the Dakota and who popped by but none other than Paul & Linda. Said how he was dying to snap photos but since no one ever suggested/encouraged it, he left the camera in the bag. That certainly epitomizes the sort of relationship he had with his friends/subjects - all about respect (i.e., never did nor would do a "tell-all" book though boy would he have stories to tell!). If you haven't seen the recent Showtime documentary on him, by all means try to track down a copy. Jack Douglas - what a pistol! And he told some great stories as well, best of which was his journey to Liverpool as a young musician back in the 60's to be "part of the scene". Some nice stories about John and the making of Double Fantasy but also his work much earlier as an engineer on the "Imagine" album. Funny fellow and obvious tops at what he does as a recording professional. Dennis Elsas - NY on-air personality who hosted the legendary '74 interview where John Lennon spent several hours in the radio booth reminiscing and acting as guest DJ. Played some clips from that interview and talked about how much of a surprise it was that Lennon actually took him up on the offer to come in to the studio! Bettye LaVette - if you don't know who she is, get on it! R&B singer who's been around donkey's years but finally got her due when performing "Love, Reign O'er Me" at the Kennedy Center Honors tribute to The Who a few years back. She performed three Lennon-penned songs, the standout of which was an absolutely spine-tingling version of "Wait". You could've heard a pin drop and the audience erupted in rapturous applause afterwards. (I believe it's already surfaced on YouTube so check it out.) She also performed "I'm Only Sleeping" and "Watching The Wheels" but she knocked "Wait" right out of the ballpark and then some. All in all, a very good evening had for sure! Next up, "Another Day Another Time - The Music of 'Inside Llewyn Davis'". Benefit concert highlighting music from the upcoming Coen Brothers film about the 60s NY folk scene and featuring live performances by an impressive list of folks inclding Marcus Mumford, Patti Smith, the Avett Brothers, Jack White, Gillian Welch and Joan Baez amongst many, many others. Can't wait!

And so onto Fleetwood Mac in Manchester, the band were great but the crowd was a horror show, dancing on seats, ale being spilled on me,a couple of fights oh dear not a night i'll look back on fondly,to add insult to injury a steward pushed my husband out of the way knocking him over to tell me to stop using my compact camera, clearly the many, many people using seemingly huge cameras had only taken them to look at through the concert and not use them,a shambles frankly from start to finish, friends who were in other parts of the arena had similar things happen to so it does seem to have been one of those nights but hopefully the bad memories will fade and i'll be left with memories of a band in top form but frankly given the cost of going that seems a long way off. Still onwards and upwards.
