From the Elton John thread Elton was spectacular last night! He played for 2 1/2 hours, racking up 26 songs, each one topping the last! Well...that opener is hard to beat...but anyway! His voice was in good form for what it is these days. He works it to his advantage and makes up for it with piano playing at times, which has only gotten better with age! The band was remarkable as well. Longtime members Davey Johnstone and Nigel Olsonn and Guitar and Drums...with keyboards, bass, percussion, two cellos, and four back up singers. I was impressed that on my third concert, I was able to hear 10 songs I'd never heard him play before. He was in an excellent mood as well, no breakdowns. My only minor qualm would be having only two songs from the new album. Still, the best he's performed of the three shows I've seen...setlist below...order may be a bit wonky Funeral For a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding Candle in The Wind Bennie and The Jets Grey Seal Levon Tiny Dancer Holiday Inn Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters Believe Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Philadelphia Freedom I Guess That's Why They Call it The Blues Rocket Man Oceans Away The One Someone Saved my Life Tonight Home Again Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me Sad Songs Say So Much I'm Still Standing The Bitch is Back All The Young Girls Love Alice Your Sister Can't Twist But She Can Rock and Roll Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting ENCORE Your Song Crocodile Rock

And so onto KT Tunstall a woman,a guitar,a kazoo and a piano and a massive amount of talent all added up to a wonderful night i just wish she'd done longer than an hour and a half she was that good.

Tickets for both Arcade Fire shows in Brooklyn next August lined up... ...just need to get tickets now for Toronto in March and I'm set! Van Morrison and (daughter) Shana Morrison up next.

Just saw that Journey & Steve Miller are touring together next year as well. There aren't really any dates close enough to me though. Not sure I'd go anyway...maybe for the right price...

Ahh a bit of bubblegum pop for next year in the form of Katy Perry, looking to be a female dominated year for me next year by the looks of it so far at least.

So,sunday and The Waterboys the penultimate gig of 2013 brilliant gig Mike Scott played loads of songs quite a lot of them for the first or second time by all accounts from the Fishermans blues sessions back in the '80's,John Lennon tribute (cold turkey)a verse or two of Paul's Blackbird and when he went off after a solid couple of hours he looked as fresh as a daisy just wished they'd have played on,its a shame he didnt i had a brilliant time. I do wonder why they never pushed on to super-stardom i suspect though it comes down to Scott himself,he just does as he pleases,if you get it and like it then your in for a treat but i think its just to much hard work for most people, its a shame though because he and the band are top notch.

Maybe it's because his real name is Michael Scott, an already very famous name... Bonus points for anyone who knows that I'm talking about!

And so on the my final concert of the year,Deacon Blue frankly disappointing if im honest i last saw them back in '94 and maybe the old rose tinted glasses are on but they were better than what i saw last night, apart from a couple of new songs, which in fairness were good the rest of the setlist was tired and boring frankly, maybe its me and my musical tastes changing over the years but it was a poor way to end a great year for concerts. Roll on next year.

I saw DB this month in Brighton and Southend, thought they were good, had seem them b4 back in 2007, yes they always do the old stuff, think the songs from The Hipsters sounded pretty decent, which venue did u see them at?

Echo Arena in Liverpool, frankly it was far too big for them even in its reduced state that the venue had been configured, too many people arriving far too late, far too drunk and TALKING (grr) far to loud (gigs are expensive why talk all the time while asking when dignity has been played,it boggles my mind it really does),the 2 times ive seen them in the past was at the empire and royal court in Liverpool and thats the type of venue they need to be seen in,in a soulless arena they were always going to struggle. As i said the new stuff they played was interesting and i would have much preferred to listen to that, but honestly even the "fergus sings the blues" teacher story i'd heard back certainly in '94,and people have the nerve to call out Paul on his lack of new stories . But my not enjoying the concert was a number of things, the crowd, the band, the venue and me as i say ive moved on wildly since my DB days of the late '80's and mid '90's but all the other points met to cock the night up,there's more than a few complaints on their FB page all with similar tales to mine, the lateness, the drunkenness and loudness (concerts are loud they must have been yelling to go above the noise) ,maybe if it had been just myself i'd have perhaps put it down to just me but it seems others had a bit of a naff night too. Still glad you had a great night or two seeing them i loved them back in the day but like an old flame perhaps you shouldnt go back and revist it years on.

Interesting point, though never been to the Echo arena so cannot compare, but Southend Cliffs Pavilion is fairly small so worked well and crowd were in good voice, Ricky did actually say that he thought they were poor in Brighton which was the first night. That is one of my bug bearers, people constantly getting up and down from their seat, when I'm at a gig, I don't want to miss any of it. Anyway sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your DB experience this time round, hope to get to see them again, there's still a few songs I've not heard them do as yet.

Assuming we get tickets...I'll be seeing Billy Joel a second time this year! Dad and I are planning to go to Nationals Park on July 26th...taking my grandmother to MSG on May 9th for her 70th Birthday and Billy's 65th.
