80's POP
-
Been listening to a bit of 80's pop music recently . I'm loving Nik Kershaw's 1984 album "Human Racing" at the moment , it's a great pop album , i had forgotten what a talented songwriter he was . "Wouldn't It Be Good" and the album title song were really great 80's UK hit singles . Intrestingly "Wix" was part of his band then and plays keyboards throughout the album . I know 80's pop gets some stick and justifiably so , but with most decades there is good and bad stuff . So what 80's pop do you rate or hate

I'm glad someone came up with this thread, especially since the '80s are my second favorite decade of music (after the swinging '60s, of course
). In no particular order, here are some of my favorite artists from the era: Paul McCartney (obviously) The Talking Heads Duran Duran Culture Club Dead or Alive Queen U2 Madonna I'm sure there are plenty of others that come to mind that I forgot to mention, including a sea of one-hit-wonders, but I think that's a good place to start. I'll probably edit this list with new additions when I remember others...

SO not something I'm proud of.

Been listening to Soft Cells first two studio albums today , they make Lady Gaga sound like Julie Andrews
Marc Almond certainly was a dark twisted soul or should that be devil . His songs on these two albums are the stuff of nightmars . Sex Dwarf , Seedy Films , Numbers and The Art Of Falling Apart are a million miles away from the shite in the charts today . Maybe only Lou Reed in the 60's and 70's wrote songs as dark as they were producing in the early 80's . Non-Stop Erotic Cbaret (1981) and The Art Of Falling Apart (1983) are albums that show some of the 80's acts were not soft
This was a 12" bonus single from their second album , the "Hendrix Medley" the heavy synth baselines are brilliant and Marc's voice is cool

I liked a lot of the British soul that came out of the '80s -- particularly, Wet-Wet-Wet, Curiosity Killed The Cat and -- my favorite -- Love & Money.
