Eric Clapton and Rusty Anderson. LURVE the sounds they can get out of their guitars! Whoever said George Harrison....he was crap!

I really have to disagree. He didn't do flashy solo's like Clapton or Van Halen but he did some complex things. I was amazed by his finger style solo on 'Till There Was You' on the Ed Sullivan Show 1964. The guitar solo in 'Something' is highly rated too, you can just sing a long to it. The runs on Octopus' garden are nice as well. He was a very accomplished guitar player, in many styles and genres. Also a very good with a slide, which you don't see much of these days. Usually his guitar playing is held in high regard by other musicians, not the public.

Laurence Juber is f*cking amazing! I've seen him twice, up close (like 2 feet in front of me) and the guy is so good it is mind blowing.

Juber is truly a virtuoso. Stevie Ray Vaughan is another giant that nobody is mentioning. As a blues player, he blows away Clapton.

Strongly considered George Harrison, Jimmy Page and Mark Knopfler but have plumped for Dave Gilmour. Guy is a genius.
-
Jeff Beck , Jimmy Page
-
I love Pete Townshend and Hendrix but I have to say Santana too. He's a hero in my born place... he can't be the best but as I said he's a hero here.
-
Forgot Pete Townshend Love Pete!!!
-
Clapton. All the way.

You're right. His performance of "13 Steps Lead Down" on Letterman in '93 or '94 left me cross-eyed. He tore it up!

Besides all the obvious choices... gotta put a word in for Tommy Emmanuel. Outstanding player, learned a lot from Chet Atkins.

there are at least one million of them,, i can not list them all on this post,, but i want to talk about 3 pickers that i have seen live in concert this summer,, first one= JOHN FOGERTY,,we all know about the song writing ability,, very much underrated,, he played 12 different axes they all sounded great!!! second one= STEVE HOWE,, regardless if it is solid body or acoutic he sounds super !!!! he plays slide also,,,, then BOYCE mentioned a very good player that should be in everybodys top ten list,,,, MR. Based on who I enjoy seeing live most I have to go with Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen Obvious one's I know but love seeing them play live. Not my favorite but I have to admit I never knew how good a guitar player Steve Winwood was until I saw him and Clapton a few years ago.
-
here are a few more= for the blues lovers,,, TINSLEY ELLIS,,, he has some age,,, but very good,, plays a mean slide,,, COCO MONTOYA,,,he plays with passion & conviction,,, also upside down & backwards,,,, then there is STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN'S little brother== KENNY WAYNE SHEPPARD he maybe the best right now in the u.s.a. under 40 years of age,,, nobody can switch from rythem to lead and not miss a beat like him,,, i seen kenny live in july,,, very impressive,,, he played the beatles song YER BLUES it was killer
