Does Paul still give Press Conferences before each show?
-
I've seen videos on YouTube of Paul giving press conferences in the 1980s-1990s, at different cities prior to his concerts. Does he still give them prior to each show? I'm sure it would only be open to the news media, and you'd have to show proper credentials in order to get in, just like you do with a VIP ticket for soundcheck, which is how it should be. Just wondered because it seems like he hasn't been in the habit of doing those in recent years. He is called upon to give so many interviews and statements etc, it would just be answering the same questions over and over, like when he was touring with The Beatles, and they had a press conference at each stop. Thought this was a really good press conference he gave in Ames, Iowa, in 1990. He was very charming, and looked absolutely gorgeous, and loved the way he answered all the questions in such a light-hearted way, while at the same time being staunch in advocating his beliefs.. It was very clever of him to say he was very pro-Corn

Sometimes he does quick phone interviews in the city he's playing in whilst pulling into the venue. No in depth interview with that.

In 1990, he had not toured in about 13 years so totally different situation IMO. Now, he has toured constantly and if he does anything now it is probably in a city he has never played before in concert.

Charming and cute to be sure. This was the afternoon before my first Macca gig. It was a sultry, humid July evening. Amazing how everyone forgot about the heat as soon as the band took the stage

Yeah, I remember seeing another video on YouTube from when he was in Montana, and a local radio station did a quick interview with him by phone while he was en route to the venue.

That's great you were able to be there! Must be such a great memory for you.
With all the humidity it must not have been easy for him being on stage with all those bright lights, etc., but he's a trooper of course, and like you said, everyone must have forgotten all about that once the show started!

Yeah, that seems right. In 1990, Some of the proceeds from his Ames concert went to an environmental study at the University there so there was a special reason for talking to the news media and it was a good opportunity for him as well to talk about some causes that are important to him.

One of my very favorite Paul press conferences.

That video was shot by a very good friend of mine. It was extremely hot that day/night.

Hard to believe he was 48 back then, looked years younger.

Yes, mine too!
Have watched it more than once

I think he looks great for his age now... 75 is the new 50

That's great, maccascruff! Was he able to talk to Paul there, or get his autograph?

With Paul there, I imagine it would be

My friend has taken video/photographed Paul several times over the years. I know he has met Ringo and did an interview with him when Ringo played the Iowa State Fair. Don't think he's done a one on one interview with Paul. When you are at an event of this type with press credentials, you can't request autographs.

Thanks, Maccascruff! That's wonderful your friend has taken video/photos of Paul AND Ringo. From the video taken in Ames, he does really good work, so they'd probably have wanted to use him again. Will have to look now and see if there's a video of Ringo at the Iowa State Fair.
Didn't know that members of the press can't ask for autographs, but that makes sense... It probably would look unprofessional somehow, when they're supposed to just do their job. I noticed at the end of the second part of the Ames video, Paul said "If there's autographs would you collect them" or something like that... so thought maybe he had signed some.

It's been a while since I've watched the video. He may have gotten an autograph if Paul said that.

Are we talking about a local DsM guy that has worked for KCCI for ages or someone else?? That night was SO hot. A dumb, drunk guy about 3 rows in front of us barfed hotdogs and beer all over about 30 minutes before the show started . . .gross! I guess we were lucky to be behind him and not in front of him. That couple had to go buy new shirts at the merch stand! Like I said, once Paul, Linda and the band took the stage, all of the other stuff was forgotten

Yikes! That throw up guy must have been such a gross experience for you! So glad you were behind him. And I'm glad that didn't happen during the concert! I'm sure that was all forgotten when the show started
Thanks for sharing the story though, I'll be seeing Paul's concert in Wichita and know just before the concert, I'll be nervous and excited and fangirling... and will be close to the front, so maybe it's best not to eat anything 2 hours before the show
Nothing would probably kill the rockin' mood for Paul than to start singing Live and Let Die and see someone's dinner come up and say hello........... (Sorry for that image everyone
)
