Please ban Contact Music articles - KEEP

Sarah F:
Then educate people by posting telling them it's just a media article, or at least pm the mods and point out the stuff you're not happy with. Then stuff could possibly be looked at as individual cases rather than the need to want to ban everything ? It does say somewhere in the forum rules about things that aren't accurate possibly being deemed unsuitable and removed ? I'm sure it does somewhere, LOL
It isn't just media stories responsible for this. It's all gossip and hearsay. There are far too many people who 'think' they know Paul or his family from snippets that they've heard or claim to know. You can't ban everything. That surely would be just as wrong...
well said! i agree with everything you are saying! many of their articles are wrong, misleading or they twist things people actually said but this is a message board after all and people should be able to discuss it in a civil manner and simply point out what bothers them about it... but, i have to admit, sometimes it's better than getting nothing! they do rip interviews apart but some of them wouldn't be available at all where i'm living!!! and if there's something wrong in these articles, tell the people.... in a calm way! some people on this board get into a rage immediately... some people seem to forget how to discuss in a civil way... and honestly, people can always stay away from the threads with these articles, they don't have to participate! they can ignore it, if they want to and when these articles really annoy them so much!!! but a ban would be plain wrong! in my opinion, it would be a violation against human rights (- freedom of speech) because if these articles are banned, people also won't get the chance here to discuss them and point out that some of their contents are factual wrong!!!

Many of us have been banned from "educating" certain members of this board, Sarah. It probably really isn`t actually Contact Music that needs to be banned from this board, is it?

Exactly female animal. Some people are allowed to express their opinions and others are not.

I hear what you are saying and I do respect that is your opinion. I hope you respect mine. I can only post as an ex mod at present. Users don't get banned from posting thier opinions and I think you posting that is actually along the same lines as some of the media stories that are blown out of proportion and spreading a few untruths. Unless there has been a drastic change in board policy since I finished modding, users do get advised to try to ignore certain comments and report them to be sorted rather than post back to a user and inflame a situation. It even says in the forum rules to report and ignore. They are often told that if they do respond, what they respond with can be seen as equally offensive and equally insulting serving to carry on an arguement. Then users go following each other around in the same type threads just to carry on digging at each other. And can sometimes lead the one who's constantly in response to get in as equally as much trouble depending on what they are posting about. A personal insult is a personal insult. It's not even a credible opinion. That isn't reasonable debate at all. It's just users that want to get one up with one another. It solves absolutely nothing. Infact, it's really dead boring to read. Then users get fed up of seeing the same group of people picking fault with what each other is saying. It ruins decent debates and discussions. If the same users constantly still go for each other openly on the forums, then users might get told they are going to wind up in a lot of trouble if they don't steer clear of each other. In severe cases I suppose it could even lead to warnings. The answer isn't always to ban users. It must be tough making sure the right users get banned.... I'm actually glad and relieved that users don't get banned on the members say so, LOL! They'd be no one left who happened to have a difference of opinion!!!!
-
Sarah, thank you for posting that. I just want to say that, as someone who has debated on a national competition level, and had it as part of a Duke Of Edinburgh award, I have NO problem with debate. It is merely a few nasty and inflammatory users here who really get me going and I do try to hold a civil tongue. I have further things to say which if I choose to express, I'll PM a moderator.
-
Thanks Lauren, I've been known in my time to take part in debates, not so much on here though
I just think sometimes debates are determined on here by which user is saying what rather than what a user actually has to say. You know? users get too catagorised into a them and us situation by what has happened in the past. Maybe I'll be proven wrong by everyone in further debates? I don't mind being proven wrong though, LOL!!

Thank you for posting this ((((Sarah)))). LOL, I CAN post as a moderator and I want to say that you are right on target with everything you said. I'd also like to add, so that each and every member understands clearly, that just because some members have different opinions other than the ones shared my other members is NOT cause for banning. Everyone is entitled to their opinion ... it's how that opinion is expressed that makes all the difference. Debates DO get heated ... if a member can't take the heat, then they shouldn't be participating in the debates. As you said, Sarah, as long as no one is personally insulting another member EVERY opinion is welcome

There has been a lot of thoughtful discussion on this thread. And while I agree that censorship isn't always the answer, but sometimes don't we have to take a stand. Why does it have to be all of nothing. The threads which contain stories from Contact Music always get into an arguement, even when it's known it's Contact Music. I'm not sure what harm it would do, to take that as an example and not to repeat their trashy rehash. Yes we can ignore it, but its not. Look at the most recent ones, it has been used to diss members of the McCartney family. Thank you Sarah for your perspective, you gave us some good advise.
-
Thanks Denny. I understand what you mean completely. I really hate seeing any bad media stories being reproduced on here myself. I do wonder though if the site starts banning certain media sources, in the long run it would be worse and have possibly more media repercussions ? This is an official site that maybe could leave itself open as a target for more bad publicity ? I don't know. It's up to the board owners what goes on here and what doesn't
-
I think Contact Music should be banned full stop to be honest; make them shut the site down.
-
Sarah I understand what you are saying. So when the thread get heated enough, will the entire thread disappear or will it be locked. Shouldn't saying it's contact music be enough to stop the thread in it's tracks. Yet, it doesn't. Personal attacks on the McCartneys always follow. Way back when we were asked to conduct ourselves as if we were a guest of Pauls. Yet in the last few threads, it has been subjected that Mrs. McCartney has been lying, some will never trust her, etc, etc. Is this how we would conduct overselves in Paul's living room. There are opinions, and yet manners should be considered when posting them. There is freedom of speech, but it has to be balanced with this being an official website. Subject at anytime to read by the owner. It's a new year, and a happy and healthy one to all. I will try to follow your good advice.
-
Hi Denny, I'm not a mod so I can't speak for any mod action I don't take anymore, but I would say that any McCartney bashing should be reported to the mods and then the owners of this place will advise them on what is left and what isn't. It's the board owners who decide what goes on here, not the mods or you and me
Happy New year to all too

rupert murdoch is certainly not the boss of all tabloids, however he is indeed a problem for the media landscape. obviously, one of his aims is to obtain the most possible profit and he's basically doing it in a very simple but still effective way. he owns different papers that present different positions and these papers of course have a different target groups... but in the end, he gets all their money. another thing concerning rupert murdoch is far more complicated and has to do with his political position which is actually the even more dangerous thing about rupert murdoch. anyway, having all that in mind i don't think rupert murdoch has a personal grudge against paul though i think it was quite brave from paul to mention murdoch in a highly negative way and it is absolutely not surprising that the BBC kept this part in the interview
edit: somebody mentioned rupert murdoch and what paul said about him in an interview with the BBC... that's why i posted this... but the post was removed! another argument against a ban is the fact that also some political posts ALWAYS cause fights... but i certainly don't think it's the articles that cause all the troubles but the people who aren't able to simply discuss the content of certain articles in a civil way... if ban and selection is the only way for some people to prevent trouble, then we have a very serious problem!

Can you only pinpoint one magazine though? It would have to be all or none.
That's exactly my thoughts. If you ban one of them, you have to ban all of them...
EXELLENT REMARK !!! Thanks Mat.

It was me who has post the Rupert Murdoch remark Anna, I have removed this later because I was affraid of people are attacking me on this. But Paul has indeed mentioning him in a BBC interview.
