Please ban Contact Music articles - KEEP
-
Maybe any articles that are likely to result in personal attacks should be banned. I see a thread referring to a News of the World article has been locked. It`s a shame so many people here don`t know how to conduct themselves.

Whilst I agree with you, some people could start an argument in an empty (chat) room, so that would mean no news stories, ever.

That's why I don't post that much in the broadcast anymore, because of the bickering on the people there. I have learned to avoid such threads.
-
well, in my opinion the mod edit very well states why this news of the world (another rupert murdoch paper
) article was removed and as far i can see, it has nothing to with people not being able to behave... it's a matter of fact that the forum rules concerning news and/or rumours are executed in very strict way on this board...
-
As someone who works on a news website, I find it even more fustrating and infuriating to see COntact News articles; just out of context rehashes of yesterday's news. I'm still in favour of banning them.
-
The broadcast forum, which is what you are talking about getting news items banned from is often filled with what I class as 'gossip/rumour stories' anyway and sadly sometimes appears to be a kind of competition forum to see who can get a snippet of news up first. At least some of the stories on the forum have improved a little I suppose and are not just stories discussing totally unrelated stuff with one line of, 'Paul McCartney broke wind earlier today' thrown in
: But, Nearly all of the sources are rehashed news or gossip in some form or other, unless Paul gives a direct interview somewhere and even that can be left open to interpretation by whichever journo is conducting the interview. Great if you work for a news website Lauren, but that doesn't always make any news more genuine than others and certainly would'nt sway me into believeing stuff from just anywhere being official news. I've watched interviews with Paul and then read what others have said about it in various sources and wondered if I watched the same interview, LOL!
I don't doubt that any news stories are treated in the same way. I respect your desire to ban certain news sources. I hope you can respect what I think also.
-
Sarah, of course I respect your opinion. Whilst much of what is on Contact Music IS true, they rip a paragraph or so out of a bigger interview, thereby removing it from it's original context and making it into a whole new "news" story and twisting things. I can think of a few negative stories which have emerged from this method of news reporting. I do understand what you've said and I have also noticed how some people like to try and compete with eachother with posting of articles, which is another reason to ban CM articles; half of what a couple of these perpetrators do is from CM.com and it's put some people I know off posting news stories.
-
Like I said, I hear you, but as far as I'm concerned it isn't just CM that do that with stories
Maybe a better way to be sure of stopping it is ban all news stories off and just have discussions on officially released stuff? Nah, that would'nt be right or work though really. I still think the best way is to report stuff you don't like to the mods cos although they don't make up the guidelines on here, they work according to the rules and guidelines given to them and it does say in those guidelines that,
Post content deemed inaccurate or derogatory towards Paul or any of his family is subject to removal.
Anything left is the fault of whichever user didn't bother to report it, isn't it ?
-
OK. Fair point, I guess. I'll try that next time.

It will be very boring if the mods are bans ALL the popular newspapers, I called them so and not tabloit. I know that 90% of the Macca fans loves to reads entertainment news, Sorry if I 'm here again controversial here, but not every Macca fan is highly educated to read very day the The Times standards Lauren wants. I see it in a very different way. The most popular tv shows here are the tabloit-entertainment formats. Not what Lauren(GLass Onios) wants. I'm no phych, but I know what people likes instickly, and that easy stuff to read. Most of the people here comes for the fun (including me).And you all have to know that I have a fanbase in the broadcast. People loves to see me posting the news there.

From the number of locked threads recently, it looks like Contact Music has been banned.

As Contact Music doesn't seem to employ journalists but rather seems to feed off other published articles, rehashing the details to suit their own purposes, it will mean they are always behind the latest news. Recently we have had the fortune to have members bring the original source artlcles to the forums first and the moderators have been able to lock and redirect CM and other rehash articles to the original source - and this has helped minimise the furore that the biased re-reporting brought to the forums. So in searching for interesting titbits should you see an article based on another - i.e. worded like "In yesterday's Gobblegook newspaper Paul McCartney said........" - have look round and see if you can bring the original Gobblegook article to the forum rather than the rehash. Even if the Gooblegook article is found and brought here later we would favour that thread as it would be a more accurate representation of the quotation written in full and in original context. Of course if we can get a press release from Paul - even better. Martin

When did I ever say I only wanted items such as those from The Times? I have been known to link to articles from The Sun as well. It is not about the level of education, either. That is irrelevant. It is about misrepresentation in the form of rehashes. I am not a moderator, but I feel this thread has fulfilled its purpose, as nothing is going to happen about it for now...so I think maybe it should be locked as I don't like where it's going.

I am interested to note that the article brought to this forum by Glass 0ni0n in this thread: http://macca.devstars.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=48518 sourced from www.paulmccartney.name was also brought to this forum here: http://macca.devstars.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=48514 sourced from Contact Music. Both articles identical word for word. I'd be interested to know who borrowed what from whom. I suspect neither web-site had the original press release. On neither site is the information attributed to any original source, the information is just presented as a matter of fact. This illustrates how important it is, wherever possible, to find a credible original source. How many more of the thread starter's threads linking to articles on www.paulmccartney.name are identical in content to articles on Contact Music? Martin
-
If you have an issue with any of the posts on this forum, Martin, perhaps you should contact a moderator.

Martin IS a moderator!!!
-
She knows
Obviously she thinks it unkind of me to highlight the incongruity of campaigning against Contact Music whilst promoting the cause of another web-site that publishes identical articles. The Moderator's line in this thread has been that the source of an article is not the issue but the content. And only inaccurate, defamatory, or articles that infringe Paul's personal privacy, will be editted or removed. Martin

To a certain extend, that site is even worse in my opinion (I finally had the time to take a closer look) - they take full articles and simply put them on their site without saying where it is coming from! That's plagiarism! Contact Music at least states that the statements are taken from interviews ("he/she said in an interview with XY"); that they tend to take statements out of context is a different though - I admit - not a less terrible thing!

I have requested them to cite their sources, although that probably would require that they ask permission from those sources as well. It isn't necessarily deliberate plagiarism. They are failing to cite the author and source of their articles as good journalism would indicate, but not outright claiming them as their own. But I have not seen that website take a statement out of context and turn the truth of the matter, as I have seen contactmusic.com do.
