          Sille:

HOW ARE YOU: Cén chaoi a bhfuil tú? or: Coans atá tú?

"Coans atá tú?" seems spanish "Cómo estás tú"(how are you?)

Hola Jaime! Cómo estás? Me llamo Ellissay y soy de Allemana! Bienvenido a paulmccartney.com! Well *Conas atá tú* does mean *Cómo estás tú* ! Celtic languages have common roots with Spanish, Italian and Portugese! So it's possible for you to understand *little* parts of it! ta-ra, Ellissay

My maiden name was Eason. Once when I was a kid someone told me they thought it was Gaelic in origin. Is it and if so what does it mean?

Hi fab4fan! Well, haven't heard that word yet. You've to know there are more than 7 different Gaelic languages - Gaeilge Connacht, Gaeilge na Mumhan, Gaelige Uladh, Gaeilge na hÈireann, Gaeilge na hAlban, Welsh and the dialects of Northern France... Maybe one of the others knows? Welcome aboard! Céad míle fáilte romhat! Ellissay

Thankyou soggy noodle. I know that there are a lot of Eason`s in Ireland. It would be intersting to find out. My dad`s mom was a Murphrey and both sides of his family came to the American south in the mid 1800s. My mom`s family were Waltons and came to America in the late 1600. My great great great great great grandfather was George Walton form Georgia who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

I haven't been here in awhile. How's the Gaelic Corner doing? The only Irish thing about me is my first name... nothing really else. Although, my father did tell me that the Irish and the Dutch was somewhat related in someway... which I really cannot see. Does anyone really know around here. Ellissay... do you know? Anyone? I've also been thinking of taking Gaelic, but I cannot find anyone that knows it very well for the speaking, and that part is very important. I want to learn it for a special friend. ops:

Dutch and Gaelic???? I'd understand German and Dutch but Gaelic? I don't see any common roots. But who knows it really? Yes, talking Gaelic is very important but I don't know any person in my region who can speak it! So that's why I started this thread. So I can write it...though most of the people here don't understand me either! Gaelic is hard to learn. I wish I was better... I still search a site on the net to learn Gaelic.

I know it was a stupid question, and I'm very niave. Wow, really? They have that? I have a book I learn from, but I'm not very good at all. I haven't heard it spoken often at all, and I love how it sounds... but. You know. I really don't know with the connections of Dutch and Gaelic (in culture and otherwise) and such. It's just my Dad said that, and I'm asking other people about it. I'm a very curious person I suppose. Thanks.
