Paul's Best Cover Songs
-
No doubt Paul is one of the greatest Pop/Rock composers of the last 60 years. If you look at both quantity and diversity, Macca is arguably the greatest. At least I think so. But Macca has also shown over the years a very good ability to interpret other classic songs. I love it when he changes the original into his own style. I'm curious what cover songs are your favorites. Here are 3 of mine: Lonesome Town (Run Devil Run)- While I love the song and like Ricky Nelson's slower balad original version, Paul takes version in my opinion takes it to another level. It was like Paul doing the song a la Little Richard but still in a balad form. If someone can get the video of Paul doing it live at Linda's Post Concert it would be appreciated. The one where Elvis Costello is along side of Paul doing the back-up vocals. I like both the album version and the live version. Maybe Baby -- Not on an album but in a movie. this is what I refer as the Macca/Jeff Lynne version. It is much faster than Buddy Holly's original and I like them both equally. Paul really kicks ass. Again if anyone can give everyone the U-tube audio of this song, it would be appreciated. Midnight Special -- the Russian "Choba B Cccp" album version -- As you know, Paul does Midnight Special often at Soundchecks. The Russian Album version takes it from a Folk Song (the way Paul does it these days) to a serious rocker. Love the way he sings the repeated line " Shine its ever loving light on me". What are some of your favorites.

First of all, I agree about your views on Lonesome Town. Here are my favorites: A Taste Of Honey 'Till There Was You Long Tall Sally (Paul's best vocal performance) Love Is Strange Don't Get Around Much Anymore Bring It On Home To Me Crackin' Up Sally Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying San Francisco Bay Blues Blue Moon Of Kentucky Singing the Blues Blue Jean Bop Party No Other Baby A Room With A View I'm Partial To Your Abracadabra I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself A Letter Okay, I'll admit it, I love most of his covers

Paul + LuLu: The top 2 Bond songs of alltime, imo. Very British.

I would have to go with I'm Down - a great Little Richard cover. Better than the original.

_____________________________________________________________ oobu24, I remember you put in Utube videos on one of my other posts. If you can find the Lonesometown Video of Paul closing out the special concert for Linda it would be appreciated. I think Paul did Lonesometown first and then he did finished with All My Loving. That's a great version of Lonesometown. Elvis Costello is along side of Paul. Also the one of from the movie soundtrack of Paul doing Maybe Baby. Not sure alot of folks have seen these. I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks with all this technology. thanks

I'd vote for pretty much all the covers on Run Devil Run. Lonesome Town and No Other Baby rightly get a lot of mention, but I love Paul's amped-up take on All Shook Up, which makes the Elvis original seem a bit flimsy. And I LOVE Shake a Hand.
