If you could get a 20-30 minute TV Interview with Macca

The other night I happen to see the video of the Rollins College interview with Paul. As many know, Rollins is the University that Paul's Stepson (and Nancy's Son) attends. As well intentioned as it might have been, the interview was as lame as many others I have seen especially for the hardcore fan. I was hoping that the interviewer was in fact a Macca fan and knew a lot of his music. Unfortunately, you could tell he wasn't. He focused on the Beatles with the same questions that Paul has answered time and time again. Paul as a Beatle, how Paul wrote with John etc. etc. We heard the same stories about the same songs....Blackbird (the Bach story), Yesterday (the dream origin), Getting Better (John's Can't Get worse part), Drive My Car (problems with the lyrics) etc. If you had an opportunity to interview Paul, what would yours be like and what would be your focus. I realize that this isn't going to happen but maybe one of Paul's people would see this Post and suggest to Paul that he does an interview something like we are proposing and with someone who knows his Catalog. My first thought would be something like this. __________________________________________ "Paul as a huge fan of your entire musical career, I would like to focus right now on strictly your Solo Catalog (i.e. after the 70's and Wings) I say this because most people from countless interviews know in deep detail about your Beatles career, your most famous Beatle songs and even a lot of your Wings' era. In contract most people know little on the Solo side. Do you realize it has been 45 years since McCartney (the album) was released. I personally happen to think that your Solo Catalogue is one of the most underrated in the modern Pop/Rock music era." "Because you have so many good to excellent Solo albums, I would like to narrow this interview to a couple of albums and your recollections of those specific time periods, the specific songs etc. " "The first one I chose is one of my all time favorites...Flaming Pie." "Flaming Pie, as you know, came right after the Beatles' Antholog. Questions: What do your remember as a whole about the FP recording sessions? Do you realize how many great songs there are on FP (Many Beatle worthy in my opinion) What do you remember and what was the writing inspiration and origin for: *Beautiful Night *Calico Skies *Little Willow *Heaven on a Sunday *Young Boy *Somedays *Flaming Pie (the song) *Souvenir (I would have to ask Paul if he ever considered contacting Sam Smith (the new British soul singer) and asking him if he would be interest in recording Souvenir) I would ask Macca again if he realizes how good these songs are. I would also tell him that, in my opinion, if most of these songs were on the White Album, they would be considered classics. Depending on the length of the interview, you could then go to another album (i.e.Chaos) and take a similar approach. If you could ever could have this opportunity of a lifetime interviewing Paul, what would your interview be like and what questions would you ask.
Excellent. Let me try to ask a few also - lol. 1) Have you ever thought of releasing a "Greatest Hits" type CD from your solo work. 2) Do you know your mike was not on when you performed at the Grammy awards? 3) What do you enjoy more, recording with the band or playing all the instruments and singing vocals yourself? 4) What are your children's favorite songs from your career? 5) What is your favorite song from "The Art Of McCartney"? 6) I have always loved "House of Wax", very haunting and great guitar riffs. What is the song about? 7) What is the toughest song for you vocally in concert?
___________________________________________________________ Yankeefan, Your last question is really a "current events" one. It would be interesting to see if Paul was honest with himself and answered MIA. Getting back to the imagined Interview... The reason that I wanted to do strictly an interview about his Solo music is obvious...that is the era that gets by far the most neglected. And it is the longest period....starting with 1980 that would be about 35 years. And the Beatles lasted what 10 years! Wings another 7 or 8 years. For me, Flaming Pie would be a good place to start. When you think about it, Paul rarely speaks about Linda. Flaming Pie would hopefully get him talking about Linda because of all the illness she was starting to go through. Focusing on the music of FP, it would hopefully bring back good Linda memories for Paul. And as I said, there is such good music from FP. He also worked with George Martin, Jeff Lynne and Steve Miller on the album. That would be also very interesting stuff. More than anything else, I would like the interviewer to know his Solo Catalogue as well as we do on this board. If I hear one more interview of the Blackbird, Yesterday, Getting Better stories, I think I'll scream. For an expert on his Solo material, there would be so much to discuss. One more question I just thought of...how about all of his unreleased songs that deserved to be on an album. That could be a 30 minutes interview in itself. This could go back as far as his Beatle days but how about all the unreleased music post Beatles. Only if something like this could happen. Paul should talk about his Solo Career much more often than he does. Does he know how manly great songs he has in his Solo Catalogue.

There are definitely many more things I would like to ask about his solo career, but at this point I wonder how much he remembers. For most of his solo career, he'll put out an album, play a few songs on one tour, and then they're put away and not considered until someone does an Archive release. It's clear from the Archive notes that Paul has simply not even heard most of this stuff since the original albums were out. And part of that is what you say, BJ, about no one asking him about them in interviews. EVERYONE asks about the Beatles, so those years are probably actually fresher in his mind than the later ones!

I think the questions a bunch of us have asked are a lot more interesting than the standard McCartney interview. I expect the usual Beatle stuff when he is on late night TV shows or even Ellen. It disappoints me when someone like Charlie Rose , Dave Frost etc don't do better interviews. Personally, I think RS magazine is capable of doing interview we would like. The last few interviews I have read them do with Mr. McCartney, they at least stay in the present a bit and not hark back to the 60's all the time. Finally, my questions were not as in-depth as yours for example but I was trying to ask things that could be answered in short period of time.

"Paul, let me ask you this. Why in every interview, do you regularly stare up at the ceiling? What the hell are you looking at up there?"
And it's off to the side usually right?
It is.

You know they say that when someone averts their eyes up and to the side that they're lying?
The same when somebody touches their nose or corner of their mouth... Mmmm...

I'm all in for the mini series! BUT about Rocky Raccoon...I'd ask Paul why he sang black minin hills & the printed matter is different.

"Hey Rocky...watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!...nothing up my sleeve." Again!!!?

Your socks, wool or cotton? Still have that black and white cowboy shirt you and the other guys started wearing around 1959? You know, the one you wore in the Fabs photoshoot in front of the white Rolls in ?69 and again sometime in the seventies? What do you think of George?s ukulele playing? How?s your shoulder? Any movement? When you look upwards in interviews?.?.yeah, that?s it??..what do you see? How?s your thumbs? Arthritic? What?s the name of that really interesting second piano chord you play in Warm and Beautiful? Oh, sorry. I don?t know how that question got in. Ignore it. Let?s move on. Er, ooh, here?s a good one??Did you choose that lovely pale blue jacket you wore on stage back in 2010 or was that something your dresser picked out for you? Very fetching I thought. Have you met Angela Lansbury? L?Oréal, Garnier or Clairol?
-
So Paul... Is San Ferry Ann inspired by the old movie? When was the last time you sheared a sheep? Is Jamaica still a holiday destination of choice? Are you aware Australia is on the world map? Can I have Mary's phone number? Are you related to Angela Lansbury?

Will you ever display your paintings again? Is the latest photo exhibit by Linda coming to the East Coast?

"Are you aware Australia is on the world map? " My dream vacation is to go to Australia but money and time will probably get in the way. Fairly expensive from the U.S. - lol. Anyway, if I had the money of Mr. McCartney I would be there in a heartbeat.
