From an unreleased interview from 1988. ?Jimmy was a good time guy, always up for a drink and a laugh. It was a good giggle having him join the later version of the Small Faces because as well has being a fantastic guitarist ? which meant we could bounce off each other and trade licks ? we had some history and were good mates. ?He sometimes came over to my gaff [house] and we'd play old records, jam a bit and get off our nuts. That went back years, well before he joined McCartney?s band. I didn?t really ?get? how that worked with Jimmy and Wings, other than I don't suppose it's a bad career move to be in a band with one of The Beatles. I know he enjoyed the touring but Jimmy wasn't the most disciplined of people when it came to kow-towing to the boss. It was never gonna last with him and McCartney, 'cos Paul's very demanding and Jimmy was too much of a free spirit. His own wee man. So it wasn't a great surprise when he told me he wanted out." - Steve Marriott 1988

"Jimmy was a cool guitar player. Henry (McCullough) had been too, but Jimmy seemed a bit special." - Paul McCartney

I gotta say this doesn't surprise me, given what we in the public can discern of their personalities.

It's been debated before, but Wings was only -- marginally -- a band. I think there would've been far less tension if Denny, Jimmy and all the others (the many, many others ) had simply been recruited as backing musicians for Paul McCartney, the solo artist -- rather than the guise of a "band."
