Flowers In The Dirt a real masterpiece

Don't worry, Wobble, I like "Distractions" more now and don't find it depressing. Especially ever since I read Ammar's entire eloquent appreciative thread on that one song "Distractions" and listened to it again a couple of times
There's much in it to admire. I still don't care much for "Don't Be Careless Love" and its odd melody and tune and sound effects of the voices. Or its lyrics. I appreciate "How Many People" a bit more, now. Intriguing of him, at least, to put a song on the cd of such a different genre than the rest. Added a lot to the album's pleasing variety 
I'm making a pledge right here and now to listen to this album tomorrow. I'm just going to revisit the heck out of it
and whats prompting this thought was Susy mentioning How Many People. I personally love that song. it does some odd production things like mixing a bit of the reggae with real bright hard rock guitars in places which I don't think I would have done.. but the song itself for me is so good you can't go wrong. Is there anyone who doesn't agree Flying To My Home should have been on the album? would it change the feel of the album a bit though? I could see that as well, cause its sooo old school mccartney rock. awesome song though. -
I'm not very fond of reggae music, that's why I said that about "How Many People" but it's probably my favorite reggae song of them all since it's Macca's
I like Linda's reggae song "Seaside Woman" too For some odd reason I wish "I Love This House" were on "Flowers" Its domestic theme fits in with that of "We Got Married," that's one reason. That song might fit better with "Off the Ground." I can imagine it being on OTG. Glad my comment inspired you to wish to revisit "Flowers in the Dirt" Kapoo

Love Seaside Woman too.. I love the version on the Arles France 1972 bootleg. I love all things Reggae though. you could play me the worst reggae song ever and I swear I would love it. don't know why, juts like the beat and freestyly groove of it all. okay, Flowers in the Dirt listening party commences right now

A good album but I don't think it's a masterpiece like don't touch it, it's flawless. Hailed as a return to form but I am equally fond of "Press to Play" so not for me thanks. I also think "Pipes of Peace" is good and "Give My Regards to Broad Street" is a soundtrack and not really a studio album. I was at a concert for the first time with McCartney on the "Flowers in the Dirt" world tour, it was great... good vibrations in this album, in that respect.

Great album, though I had to warm up to it. It's about the same as all his other solo LPs. BOTR is probably the best, maybe. Motor of Love, How Many People, so many good songs! Wish he made them like this today.

Well, "Band on the Run" has a perfect side 1, but side 2... I think "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard", "Memory Almost Full", and "New" is a run of albums that stands up to any others in his discography. And... "Electric Arguments" in between these, perhaps my favorite...

Let's not forget "Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart)", 2006. According to (the one and only) me, his best classical album... so far.
I may find artists where I miss the old days, but with McCartney .. I can hardly wait for the next project ...

I rate FLOWERS very highly indeed. I believe it's the best out of of all the albums he's made since BAND ON THE RUN (although VENUS & MARS, BACK TO THE EGG, TUG OF WAR, FLAMING PIE and CHAOS & CREATION IN THE BACKYARD - as well as possibly one or two others - rival it closely). I'd even go so far as to say it's his 3rd-best solo record, after BAND ON THE RUN and MCCARTNEY. My only quibble is that "Ou Est Le Soleil" is not as strong as the other songs, but I would offset this by regarding it as a bonus track.

I'm in the minority, but I've never much cared for this one. Motor of love might be the worst song he's ever written.
I like a few songs, but I rarely have an urge to listen to this one. Love this one and put it there though. -

it's really a shame that Paul didnt do the entire album with Elvis Costello. If you think about all of the great songs that they wrote in that time period that appeared on other albums like so like candy. flowers could have been the masterpiece if it was an entire McCartney Costello record.

Its a pity they don't official release the demos they made for the album as they were better than the final recordings.

The demos with Costello, talk about perfect archive release for a "Flowers in the Dirt" reissue. I wish they had a slightly faster rate of releases...

Yes, it may seem as if he is more interested in making new music than to dig into the archives. Bob Dylan is definitely better at this, just look at The Bootleg Series...

Completely disagree with your comments about Paul's band. Wix was a staple back then, Robbie McIntosh was an excellent guitarist & Hamish Stuart's harmonies were superb. It was only the drum stool which changed occupant a couple of times. I think the "Unplugged" performance with that band is one of Paul's career highlights and the 89/90 World Tour a triumph. As for "Flowers", it's a brilliant album, but I think it falls slightly short of being a masterpiece, badly let down by "Motor Of Love" and "Ou Est Le Soleil". The McCartney/McManus compositions are particularly great and I really wish he still wrote with Elvis.
I totally agree on that. His collaboration with Elvis Costalle worked out really fine for both of them. I like the album Flowers In The Dirt. It marks the start of a period in which he made his best albums. In my opinion.
