Road . . . Does anyone agree?

Let me start by saying I love the new album. I also think Road is great song. That said . . I think it would have been perfect without the silly piano hand clap interlude that takes place 2 times. I hope that explains it and I think you all understand what I'm referring to. It just so frustrates me that it doinks up
an otherwise gem. Anyone agree? Disagree? Curious. Cheers, Marc -
Well you did ask Marc ~ I really love the hand clapping (not one-hand
) any song with hand-claps or finger snaps gets the thumbs up with me. The crescendo percussion is so good 
I'm one of those who taps the steering wheel while driving and has to slap my thighs when listening to music I love! -
Road is actually my least favorite so far. I find most of the other songs in my head at times, but that one just doesn't stick with me. Can't even make myself remember it right now though I've heard it at least 5 times now. The squeaky voice at the beginning bothers me more than the hand clap thing because the song is trying to be epic, and that doesn't fit.

I don't mind the clapping parts at all, but I do agree that it should have gone longer and built up more. The one thing I don't like is that weird dissonant keyboard thing behind the last verse. I know what they're trying to do, but it just doesn't work for me. But overall, I think it's a really good song. The bass is amazing, and I can't help but think that the "crazy partner" line is a tip of the hat to "Roll Over Beethoven"'s lyrics.

I am constantly surprised of all the people who don't dig Road
For me its just as good as the other New Tracks, perhaps not instantly for some fans which is fine. New from start to finish is so much better than Memory Almost Full and that isn't a bad album either folks 
I rate it so far at least on par with Chaos and Creation and not far of Flaming Pie, Tug Of War, Band On The Run and Ram. I love the ambience of Road particularly then descending bass runs and the deeper harmony vocals towards the end. I think the chorus soars and I love the spooky travelling vibe that is present on the track -
Starts off a little strange In my opinion, too tecky ( if that makes sense) but after the 1:00 spot, its pretty dam awesome. the 2nd verse feels a little bit better after the first chorus though. Other than that, im pretty cool with this song. especially the bits after the chorus. THEY ARE SOO SOO COOL! Not my fav but its not bad or anything, just doing different things.

No problem with the hand clapping. Think it adds to the song, certainly does not detract from it. Wasn?t a huge fan of the clunky piano bits at the time. Still think it is a little exaggerated and forced. This is a fine enough ?album track?, however. Bits of the bass still remind me of U2. But it is something short of being an epic ?epic?. By a fair margin. Better than House of Wax, still. By a fair margin. But, in terms of a dark kind of song, I?ll go with a song like ?However Absurd?. Not sure if that is the right comparison, but since the ?Keep Under Cover? thread, I have been re-listening to Pipes of Peace and Press to Play. I?m a kid again.

Actually my favourite track on NEW. Just listen to the bass before the final crescendo. And absolutly : the crescendo should have gone on with a few more "Heading for the light"s thrown in.

'Road' is my favourite on the album by a mile! Absolutely perfect, in fact one of his best solo tracks of all time.

The plonky piano really makes the song for me, and I don't mind the hand claps. I've suspected the song is either about the Beatles or it's a hybrid song about The Beatles and Nancy, and the piano part reminds me of the former's "Not a Second Time." parlance

Right now thinking "Road" is great, but it frightens me
Although at the end, he sings everything is going to be alright...his natural optimism rises up...don't like to behold him so frightened and down-hearted and lost--but who hasn't felt that way at times. -

I liked Road and the 'New' album but wasn't overly fussed on 'Hosanna' track. It's different jokes for different folks for example, my son aint fussed on 'Appreciate'. Roll on new BBC Beatles cds nxt week. I loved Lewisohn book too, very informative & well written! I must be due a new McCartney concert now!
