New book by Paul Du Noyer: 'Conversations with McCartney'
-
I've just finished the book and found it an enjoyable read. There were a few pieces of info that were new to me (like Paul allowing the pilot of Concorde to play his guitar while it was on autopilot !!
) and there was some additional info re: the Mac's Lagos robbery that I hadn't read before. There were also a few errors in the narrative, but I've forgotten what they were now.
ops: Its a well written book, its objective and fair (and mainly accurate) to its subject, and it flows easily along, both chronologically and within its chapters on specific subjects. I think most fans will come away from this book with a better understanding and insight into who Paul McCartney actually is. 7/10

Does the book cover the past 10-15 years of Paul's life and career or is it mostly focused on the 70s and 80's? When was the most recent interview/conversation with Paul conducted?

The books narrative covers Paul's life and career up until the New album but coverage naturally depends on when the interviews were conducted. I think the most recent interview was 2005 but I would need to read the book again to confirm that as there is no list of interview sources.Instead the year is woven into the text as an introduction to each 'quote' from Paul. There is very little material on Paul's current life though. Nancy (and Heather before her) is only briefly mention whereas Linda gets a whole chapter dedicated to her. This is quite a good endorsement of the book: ?In my relatively-informed opinion, the greatest book ever written that properly understands McCartney? Not only a triumph of explaining how the legend ticks, it reveals a lot that even the most avid fan won?t know?. Until Paul McCartney himself writes his own memoir, Paul Du Noyer has set the bar and you won?t need any other volume on your shelf.? (Geoff Baker, Paul McCartney?s personal PR for 15 years.) .

Got my copy yesterady. Nice book, which gives us a lot of new perspectives on Paul and also focuses a lot on his solo career and with Wings. Elegant layout (I chose to get the hardcover). And...yes, what a thrill to see my name and my book Paul McCartney: Recording Sessions (1969-2013) printed on the acknowledgments! Du Noyer quotes six books that he found particularly useful in his research: - Mark Lewisohn, All These Years, Vol.1, Tune In - Ian Mac Donald, Revolution in the Head - Paul McCartney, Each One Believing - Barry Miles, Many Years From Now - Ian Peel, The Unknown Paul McCartney - Luca Perasi, Paul McCartney: Recording Sessions (1969-2013) I'm in good company, isn't it?
I have your book...It is well done, sir!
I have it too..it's awesome

Shocking lack of reviews of this book and it hasn't appeared in any bookshops I normally frequent, with every shop I've asked having to look it up. Just proves that these days all a publisher does is keep your rights. Paul du Noyer has been left to promote this himself! Here's another instance of him doing just that http://www.thecoast.net.nz/shows/breakfast-with-brian-kelly/brian-talks-to-paul-du-noyer-about-conversations-with-mccartney/

PS- What IS going on with Mark Ellen's eyebrows?!

I too recommend Luca's book, a great reference

Your book is amazing! Any chance of future updates as the archives get released? Your book is up there with Mark Lewisohn and Keith Badman.

Thanks for the sum-up. Sounds like it's worth a look (if only to find out more on the Concorde / guitar-playing story!).

I want to get this, it sounds good!

Don't buy it just for that as it was no more than a paragraph or two. Overall though, the book just gives the reader a more balanced view of the Paul McCartney beyond the 'public image'. Its not vital but its well worth a read and I can't see any Macca fans being disappointed with their purchase.

I would give Du Noyer's book a good 8.5/10. It's written from an interesting perspective, and finally there's room for solo career. A welcome addition to our catalogue

This book has been officially endorsed by Paul himself: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/conversations-with-mccartney

I got this book for Christmas and just finished it. It was very enjoyable hearing McCartney talk about different things through his entire career. The author (Paul Du Noyer) does a good job and while a bit of a fan does mention in book music he thought was rubbish. There were a few things in the book that I learned which was nice but I think most of the fan here have probably heard or know most of the stuff mentioned. Overall, it was a fun read for me.

I got the book some time ago, met the author during BeatleWeek at the Adelphi and got his autograph on the title page, but I have yet to read it!
I've been slowly wading through all the various books stacked up by my bed and now that I'm mostly retired I have time!
