I generally try to divide the artist from the artwork, and I said elsewhere that honestly I could care less if PM or any musician I like is a nice chap or a douche. But there are times when even you can be disappointed in them personally for something that they did that just makes you shake your head. Case in point: Paul snubbing the Beatles' Rock HOF induction. I've never understood why he did that. George, Yoko, and (a pretty awesomely plastered) Ringo were there. Why not Paul? I seem to remember George afterwards chiding Paul for that no-show. Him being there would've been a nice sweet moment for fans and give a nice positive ending to the Beatles saga (many years before the Anthology.)

I agree with you about Beatles HOF induction. He should have put all the bitterness aside for one night and been there. I will add that McCartney declining the Kennedy Center Award in 2002 which had rarely ever been done before in the history of the award.

        Maybe I'm amazed !!

He didn't want to be two-faced at the R&R Hall of Fame ceremony. Makes total sense to me.

I think it was also another case of "will there be a Beatles reunion?" from the press if the 3 of them were together at something (and I think it was around this time that the rumors started going around that Julian would take John's place in a reformed band).

I definitely think that was a factor, too.

Pffft. I'm sorry but that's what I say if that really was Paul's excuse. Reunion rumors were strife during the WOA tour. Same with Live Aid. He (and the other Beatles) dealt with that crap by 17-18 years whenever the Rock HOF induction happened. What else is new? Let the media stir themselves over nonsense. The story wasn't the Beatles being honored, it became that Paul couldn't be bothered to show up. I mean hell Talking Heads, a band where the members don't exactly get along together, acted like grown ups and accepted their HOF honor. All that said, Paul did sorta make up by giving a lovely induction speech for John when he got elected.

I need to think about this more, but yeah the HOF was a disapointment. Also, I remember back in the 70's & early 80's during the drug arrest times, wondering what were they thinking? The kids were always there. Remember the talk about piles of cocaine on tables ? with the kids playing around it ? I forget if this was a Denny Laine story. The kids turned out fine,so I guess I had no worry !

I go back so far,I'm in front of me

Yeah, there's a video out there (it may be on Wingspan or something) where Paul is in the backseat of a car with Linda, Mary & Stella, just toking away on a joint! I'm not against pot and I have been known to inhale a time or ten in my youth, but how did Paul manage not to raise a bunch of stoned kids? I never heard about the cocaine stories.

Yep and there were all sort of reunion rumours for the Concert for Bangla Desh also.

They had some financial differences but do you really think McCartney could not handle a couple hours with his band mates honoring the work they did and made them all rich and famous beyond belief. Even with those differences, do you think McCartney "hated" Ringo, George and Yoko. Nobody said he had to act like they were best buddies but to stand up with them and say a few words to the audience should not have been that difficult. This is a rare occasion IMO that McCartney came up "small".

George, Ringo and Yoko had all just sued Paul, if I remember correctly. The Rock n Roll Hall of fame is a load of nonsense, anyway.

The pot doesn't bother me at all. Millions of people drink around their kids all the time -- and no one gives that a second thought. And alcohol can make people angry and violent. Weed mellows you out. It probably made them better, more relaxed parents who didn't get uptight about the kids making messes or screaming -- like many a drinking parent does. It's stupid that pot is illegal anyway, IMO.

Oh, I agree with you! It just struck me as funny that (except for James for a while and maybe Heather in her teenage years) none of them had a drug problem.

I understand why he didn't go, what with the lawsuit they were pursuing against him. But purely from a PR standpoint, this was just a bad decision. It only ended up hurting him, because you KNOW he wanted to be there. And he just ended up looking petty for not going.

Not saying I agree with it, but that was probably a reason of his. It also kept him from doing George's Bangladesh Concert in 1971.

I remember reading many times over the years that Paul and Linda kept the kids away from the other guys in Wings and the crew when the crazy stuff went on and the hard drugs came out. Basically, he said something to the effect of, once the parties got crazy and the coke and H came out, he and Linda and the kids went to bed and let the rest of them do what they wanted. Denny had an axe to grind by the end of Wings, as did his psycho wife JoJo...I wouldn't take anything they said seriously.
