What an underrated album this is. I'm working my way through the great McCartney's albums from the s/t and and now up to this. So many all time great tracks: London Town Cafe on the Left Bank I'm Carrying Backwards Traveller Girlfriend With a Little Luck Don't Let it Bring You Down even the reissue track Girls School rules. Any love for this album round here?

Should be plenty of love on a Macca message board because it is a great album and probably is overshadowed a bit by other PM/Wings albums. Another album that really has grown on me over time. Great tracks like the ones you mention Don't Let It Bring You Down and With a Little Luck are two of my all time faves. How about Deliver Your Children, Name And Address (nice Elvis homage) and the epic Morse Moose and The Grey Goose. It is one that I'm really look forward to in the remastered reissue series because I don't think the existing CD's have been remastered too well. I hope they really improve that aspect.

Listen to the song they sing,
        Awakening

Just think if London Town had Mull of Kintrye and Girl's School on the original release instead of Children Children and Cuff Link? And what if Backward's Traveler was longer? London Town was this close to being a masterpiece.

It's my joint favourite along with Speed Of Sound. Classic album, way underrated and definitely preferable to BOTR.

It was my "go to" Wings album for years.

Love this rocker! Find myself subconsciously singing it if I'm having a hard day at work. Great, underrated album.

Love this album! In fact, I played it a lot again recently and kind of rediscovered it. But I don't think it's underrated... especially not among fans. If you read the album top 10 thread, you'll see a lot of fans have LT in their top 10...

A pleasant, mellow ,tuneful album which is (just about) ok but it lacks (for me) the passion and energy of, for example, 'Band On The Run'. Play BOTR, then LT, and its hard to believe its the work of the same artist.

That's my view, too. It's like he lost his bite from BOTR to LT. Not that I dislike London Town. But there's no edge to it, for me anyway.

The more I hear it, more I like it. It's driving me crazy, really!! is a little cold, as you say, it doesn't have the energy of BoTR or V&M but it has a little touch of abstraction that Paul never had. Besides, Laine gets more participation and it makes it really well, imo, the best collaboration between them.

Not sounding like the same artist between albums is a GOOD thing. Shows the diversity of McCartney and Wings during the 70's.

                                That's a very fair point.

As I mentioned in another similar thread - if the release of this album hadn't coincided with the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, he'd have yet another number one album...as it was, the single With A Little Luck bumped a Saturday Night Fever spawned single from the number one spot here in the States (If I Can't Have You)...definitely a nice little album....mellow coming on the heels of Venus and Mars/Speed of Sound and the big 1976 (Wings Over America) tour... The one thing I will say is that while I don't mind edited down songs for the most part, With A Little Luck (to my ears) is a big time exception...The full 5:45 version in it's full glory is one of the best pieces of music Paul has ever laid down on vinyl...while the (now called) DJ Edit flat out sucks...yes, it makes that much of a difference...and to make it worse, it doesn't even sound professionally edited - but rather like someone sawed it in half, and glued two reduced sizes back together...awful...as far as I'm concerned, the only way one could disagree with this is if they weren't too hot on the song to begin with...then I could see how it makes little to no difference to you

The album largely stiffed and the reaction at the time was pretty tame for a Wings album. People were after a "rockier" release. The years have been kind to London Town. It's one of my faves now too. I suppose along with Red Rose, it might be considered the neglected Wings album.
