I hope its great & if the new song is anything to go by, it should be good. Paul rarely disappoints except for McCartney II!
I think it's going to be great, too!
-
I usually go to the track before the end for the big ballad such as, Beautiful night, House Of Wax, C,mon People, Anyway etc! I sit late at night with cd cover, headphones & mug of tea & enjoy new album each time! Can hardly wait & we have Beatles At The BBC II as well! Now all I need is Paul to visit Ireland with his new show. Hey Jude!!

... hahah funny.. whomever said MAF was worthless... really? .. tone deaf perchance... for some reason I think critics will chop NEW down.. now enough depth or too simple of lyrics... It's a light hearted song ... I wonder how long it would take to listen to it a million times on youtube? currently.. NEW has 532,522 hits... thought it would be more.. with his millions of fans!

Lyrics! Don't look at me, it's way too soon to see What's gonna be, don't look at me All my life, I never knew what I could be What I could do, then we were NEW You came along and made my life a song Oh, lucky day you came along Just in time while I was searching for the light You came along, then we were NEW We can do what we want, we can live as we chose You see, there's no guarantee, we've got nothing to lose Don't look at me, I can't deny the truth It's plain to see, don't look at me All my life, I never knew what I could be What I could do, then we were NEW We can do what we want, we can live as we chose You see, there's no guarantee, we've got nothing to lose Don't look at me this way, too soon to see What's gonna be, don't look at me All my life, I never knew what I could be What I could do, then we were NEW THEN WE WERE NEW NOW WE ARE NEW

Thanx for the lyrics!

W.D. Stevens:
He says it's a simple love song but I am inclined to believe the possibility it is about John. Just for the fact of that line 'searching for a rhyme' which makes me think of the oft told story of them writing I Saw Her Standing There with 'She was just 17, never been a beauty queen' and John just going 'Really?'
The more I listen to it, the more I think it was about the first meeting with John at Woolton. All my life I never knew what I could be what I could do Then we were new His whole life was ahead of him then. He didn't know what the future would hold. That and the line about "searching for a rhyme," also goes to their songwriting partnership. There's no talk about "this love of mine," or love at all, which I would expect if it were about Nancy.
I agree. Someone on You Tube mentioned that he thought it could be about John/the Beatles and now when I listen to it can't help but think that. Especially the part where he sings: You came along and made my life a song One lucky day You came along Just in time When I was searching for a rhyme You came along Then we were new I just picture the day he met John in those lyrics. But who knows! we could all be completely off base

Those sounds remind me of 'Hello, Goodbye,' or the sound of a train.

He said in one of his interviews that it's about Nancy, it's a love song

My Valentine is a beautiful song, much superior to the so-called classics he covered on Kisses. Only Mama Knows is an inferior Junior's Farm, which sounds as though it was mastered by a small child - there might be a song in there but I can't hear it because of the volume.
Well said on both counts.
My Valentine didnt chart well because of the McCartney name (ironically, 180 degrees opposite from the 1970s). If Adelle had covered it on her next album (Under Paul Romone, writer), it would be a huge hit & instant classic. Paul needs to start writing material for other artists.

I really doubt the name had anything to do with it. Saying the charts are dominated by kids is a two way street, "My Valentine" sounds like an old person song. It did not sound new or fresh, nor was it supposed to. It fit the album just fine, but anyone that thought it would chart on today's pop charts is a lunatic!

The Guardian reviewer had a nice write-up about the song, too:
It "... sounds very much like you would expect a Paul McCartney single produced by Mark Ronson to sound, which as it turns out is quite a good thing. Opening with some jaunty harpsichord and a typically bouncy bassline, it's McCartney at his two thumbs up best, sweetly singing about how the lady in his life "came along and made my life a song". As is Ronson's wont, parping horns crop up throughout, and there's a great bit around the 2:30 mark when the music drops out completely and Paul indulges in some lovely barbershop quartet-style vocal harmonies while someone shakes a maraca.
