Woman - the McCartney song
-
Macca wrote some major hits for other artists: Goodbye, World without Love, Wings of a Nightingale, etc. 1 of my favorite is Woman for Peter & Gordon. Top 10 hit in 1966. Its a shame Macca doesnt perform any of these songs in concert, instead of playing the same songs over & over!!

Mike mccartney also did a song with the same title i like this one ops:

Woman - the one he wrote for Peter and Gordon is an outstanding song.I wish Paul had kept it for himself. Would love to hear his version. How about on the new album ?

Those songs they wrote for others were considered not good enough to go on a Beatles album, so they would give them away. This one he used a pseudonym Bernard Webb to see if it wasn't just the Lennon McCartney name that made them successful. Since it went to no. 1 also, it made him realize he really was a good songwriter. I think he's too busy doing new songs though, to put a 47 year old cover on the new album.

i agree the i love the lyrics they are so beautiful and touching. some of the best one that Paul ever written in my honest opinion.

I guess he considers some of his unrecorded songs "not good enough" also. Some aren't, really, but some of them are worthy to put out.Maybe it's hard for him to always be objective about his own songs he wrote in order to tell which should be recorded. Since he's such a top musician, seems like he'd know right off the bat, and feel it, too. But perhaps not. He might be overwhelmed with such a large backlog of music. One hopes he has many new songs to consider now.
-
He didn't release Maybe I'm Amazed as a single in 1970!! He apparently hadn't a clue that it would be a #1 hit!

Is good,a very good song, his voice is warm and beauty, sounds like Paul's voice when was young... really guess is a tragedy be a brother or a son of some one so famous and genial like Paul...must be very frustrating to be compared with him all the time...
-
Addressing someone as 'woman' is sort of a bad start of the conversation. And the rest of the lyrics are pompous and juvenile to my ears. But I sort of like the over-dramatic melody.

I don't think Peter and Gordon's rendition could be improved upon. It's one of my all time fav songs. Maybe Paul knew it needed a deeper voice to do it justice, perhaps? Just saying.

I really like Woman, the Lennon song. Does anyone know if this song was written after the lost weekend or before? Was this Yoko's apology?

Pretty sure after, by several years. It does read like an apology to her in part, but it's just a great love song to her.

Yeah, it's a great song. I think it's one of his best.

I also hear it (the JL song) as some sort of apology to womankind in general: for trying to be a feminist but always lapsing back into to male-chauvinist-pig-routines ...

At the time, John said it was "to Yoko...but it's for all women." Famously it opens with John muttering, "For the other half of the sky," which was a Chairman Mao quote.
-
I dunno whether it's a good song, but that version of it is drivel.

John knew it was similar to (one of the Beatles song) I guess that is "Here There and Everywhere", the chord sequence is the same, and the feel also John's "Woman" starts with same way of Paul's "Woman" and the same word!

Another beautiful Paul song that I was unaware of. Too bad more people didn't know of the eBay auction of that acetate! Can't believe it went for such a low price!! Next time I hope someone will let us know about something like this.... before the auction!
