I had always thought

that Paul should have released a single in advance of an album, looks like David Bowie is going all the way to #1 with his new single, its not a race an nor it should be but Paul McCartney's new material deserves to hit #1 if Bob Dylan, David Gilmour and Bruce Springsteens can. Thoughts?

My Valentine was released prior to the KOTB album. I seriously doubt Bowie's next single will hit #1. His album will most definitely hit #1 in March/April when it's released, though. Everyone was caught off guard with Bowie's birthday announcement of a new album. We all thought he had retired. And then all of a sudden, he's back in business.
Paul can hit #1 with an album again. No question about it. But he seriously needs to show he's back as a performer/artist and not a Bootleg-Beatles-Tribute-Show and stop treating his non-Beatles catalouge as guilty pleasures.

you know what? dance tonight and my valentine are great singles, both I wasn't initially taken back by but I have grown to love.

My Valentine is a good song. I like the tone of his voice on that song. Dance tonight is just a song. It doesn't do anything for me, but I don't mind it either. In this day and age neither song is #1 material. The new Bowie song will probably hit #1, simply because of the "shock" effect. A McCartney/Bieber duet might possibly hit #1........but come on, we're not that desperate

Here are songs from the last 20 years that have hit quality from Paul: "Lonely Road" "Too Much Rain" "Ever Present Past" "Somedays" "Back In The Sunshine Again" "Souvenier" "Follow Me" "Your Loving Flame" Some were released as singles, some would have made good singles
-
Bowie #1? that will surprise me. Wasn't Bowie upset last time he released an album? Complaining music stations did not play any of his new material. He had a hissy fit. I remember this as Ringo commented its only fair as artists of their generation has had their chance and now its the younger generations turn

Well, that's my cue to insist -- yet again -- that MAF's "That Was Me" practically BEGGED to be released. The most radio-friendly track he's recorded in the recent past.

How could I forget that was me!!! Radio hit all over it

And the Amoeba live version was nominated for a Grammy in 2009 (Best Rock Vocal Performance), which only validates that point.

He has a history of releasing the wrong songs as singles. Imagine what his last five albums could have done on the charts if he'd picked different songs to release in advance of them?

Back in '93, I thought "Mistress & Maid" should've been released. When Flaming Pie was released a few years later, I thought that "The World Tonight" and "Beautiful Night" were very good choices (the latter having one of his best videos ever), but "Souvenir" would've been a much, much better choice than "Young Boy." "Souvenir" struck me much the same way "That Was Me" did.

"Souvenir" and "Calico Skies" were my two choices for first or follow-up singles to Flaming Pie. I also agree with "That Was Me" as a single for MAF. It would have been a great choice, with "Dance Tonight" as a follow-up single.
