Why "Richard Corey" Song??

I really like this cover - and I'm not easily convinced when it comes to covers. I actually knew this before I'd ever heard the S&G original. Fun to play on the old acoustic as well.
I certainly like this more than some of the cover songs he did during his 89/90 tour as well as the 93 tour (although if 'Lucille' or 'Summertime' from the Russian album had made the set list, I might feel different)..I've never taken a drink or bathroom break during a Paul concert...but Twenty Flight Rock is about as close as I get to not feeling so 'dedicated'...LOL

They did good on "All My Troubles" too, an old folk song, I think that's its title? Maybe not. It goes "River of Jordan is muddy and cold, chills the body but not the soul" etc. I was surprised when I heard that from them, too. It's touching, inspiring, that Paul appreciates folk music along with the other wide diversity of genres he embraces and has mastered.

Right. You can tell he's got a lot of compassion by the way he sings that, really pours his heart out

Not surprising that John Denver was at one of the shows. John was a huge Macca fan. Before John got big, he had covered several Paul songs on a couple of his very early albums. I remember he had covered a couple of the songs from Paul's first album (McCartney). I'm almost sure he covered Junk and maybe Every Night. On another early Denver album I believe he covered Let It Be and Mother's Nature Son. Someone might be able to confirm these covers. I believe that by the time Paul and Band made their Wings Over America Tour, John Denver had made it big in America. No surprise that Denny would ad lib his name if they knew John was in the audience. None the less, a very good ad lib by Denny. I do like Denny's singing on the song as well as his singing on Go Now. When Paul joins him, they sound really good together as well.
John Denver had a massive following in North America by the mid-1970's. When I first heard WOA when it was released it made perfect sense for Denny (with tongue in cheek) to sing about wishing he "could be John Denver", considering the string of hits and notoriety and cross over appeal that John Denver had back then. From young rockers to old time country lovers, everyone seemed to dig John Denver's Rocky Mountain High. I was in high school in the mid-70's and "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" was such a huge hit in Canada and strangely wasn't deemed uncool in any way. So for a 16 year old kid at the time, hearing the lyric......... "I wish that I could be.....John Denver" made perfect sense.

Hello to you, too. Yes, I was there at the Edmonton concert. Incredible show! Totally blown away. Couldn't believe the energy he had and his voice was in excellent shape. I don't think he missed a note all evening. I was there for the 2nd night, the show that he sang "Wonderful Christmastime" complete with fake snow drifting down from the rafters. But the highlight for me was "Mull Of Kintyre". Never thought I would ever get to see Paul McCartney in concert, so for me it was a thrill of a lifetime.

I thought you'd be there! BTW, have loved a lot of John Denver songs, or a right good bit of 'em anyways.
