With the high ticket prices and the general state of the economy, I was wondering why people on this board go to more than one McCartney concert of a particular tour. Let's take the concerts recently at the Barclay Center. It seems a bunch of people went to both concerts and had floor seats which are expensive. I am not positive but believe they are around $300, correct me with the price if I am wrong. This means $600 for one person just to see two concerts. This does not include staying at hotel in Manhattan/Brooklyn which is not cheap. I would think nobody got anything much cheapier than $150-$200 a night. Add travel and food expenses and it is quite a sum of money. I have seen McCartney on almost every tour since 1976 (never more than one show per tour) and know it is a wonderful experience. I just don't get spending that type of money to see two shows when the setlist has minor changes (1-2 songs) and the stage banter is basically the same. What could happen in another show that justifies the cost to you? IMO - if I was in NYC for a couple of days and saw one McCartney concert, I would rather use the money I would spend on the 2nd concert and have dinner at nice restaurant and see Broadway show. (and still have money left over). Another thought would be to take that money and go to a club in NYC (54 Below, BB King's, Joe's Pub etc) and listen to some different music and have dinner or drinks. This still would be cheapier. Finally, this is not knocking people who see multiple shows. It is your hard earned money and you can spend it as you want. I just think differently.

      Maybe I'm amazed !!

I did this in 1989 and 1993. I have not done it since. I suppose many folks just want the experience over and over again. Like a drug! On the one hand, he only changes out two songs, so is it really worth it? On the other hand, if Paul McCartney came to Albuquerque and did two shows, I would go to both. But I would not buy floor seats for both shows. Probably one $300 ticket, then a cheap seat the next night.

Yes, it is like a drug. If I could I would go to all of the shows.

It's more expensive than drugs I do it because Paul is mortal and so am I He's important to me and I want to see him as much as possible while I can. Also I happen to LIKE his setlists Besides, every show is different, idiosyncratic, in the fine details onstage and definitely on the audience end. if you go to enough you know

I heard someone put it brilliantly once??When you go to an amusement park, do you go on a great ride get off and say ?Okay, let?s go home?!? No, of course not. You say ?Hey, that was Super! I wanna do it again!? Same with Paul?s shows. I can hear the songs a million times and not get sick of them. That doesn?t mean I wouldn?t rather have some different songs that I haven?t heard him do before in the show. For myself, and many friends, shows are an event. I place to meet up with friends and have a great time! It is my time off from work. I saw Paul in Orlando, and spent a day at Universal Studios. I saw Paul in Memphis and went to Sun Studios, The Rock n Soul Museum, Beal Street, and Graceland. It is my fun time off. Also, it has to do with dopamine in your brain, a great feeling! Yeah, I want to do it again! I just hope the park never closes! I'm psyched for my European Trip to start, and Fenway and DC in July. Podgie (One of the Fans On The Run Gang) Monkey

I agree with you it can get a little boring seeing the same thing over and over. As much as i love Paul's music i'd rather go off and see other other artists too. I'm off to see the the Who on Sunday in London, then return home the next day to see Steve Winwood, then a week later i'm off to Verona to see Paul in the Roman Amphitheatre, i'm hoping that setting will help energise me into loving the over familiar setlist.

OK, but even Disneyworld does not cost $300 for a day. - lol You could go to those places (Orlando, Memphis) and still not spend money on a McCartney show IMO. If you are meeting friends and McCartney show is the common bond that is cool and I understand it. Fenway is neat ballpark and I went to see Nationals game in DC in May and it is really nice baseball stadium. Thanks for the explanation.

                    Maybe I'm amazed !!

I agree with you. McCartney is my all time favorite artists but I would rather spend money on different music than almost identical McCartney concert.

I get going to more than one concert, but I do not purchasing the VIP sound c check packages numerous times. I did it once and I'm done. It was my bucket list. I saw Paul in Memphis and bought a $54 ticket in Milwaukee. I will only be hearing Paul in Milwaukee I would not have gone to Milwaukee but I have a cousin who invited me to stay with him and don't have to pay for lodging. It's also a 4 hour drive and I can handle the cost of gas for that distance.

So you went to the show in Orlando? Sunday show. I'd guess. I went to the first show on Saturday. Nose bleed seat, of course! I also have a ticket to be at the Indy show in July..I live near there. That's why I'm going to that one. I went all the way to Halifax NS in 09 to see my very first gig. It would be tragic if I couldn't go to see him "LIVE" in my own backyard! I went to Orlando too 'cause I combined my trip to Fl. to see my grandkids + catch his opening show for the new tour. LOVED IT!! I didn't spend a lot of $$ as I stayed w/ my daughter-in-law most of the time (except the night of the show, I booked a "flea bag" motel room) I had one nice meal across from the venue, the rest of the time I ate w/ my in-laws. You can do things on the CHEAP if you know how. As far as meeting other fans, of the three shows I've been to I only met one. That was in Halifax and she was not happy to see me!! : Still, I had a BLAST!! First time I'd ever been out of the country. A priceless memory!! In Pittsburgh..I don't talk about Pittsburgh. Everything that could go wrong DID go wrong!! Even the roadie I met was a JERK!! I will have to make every effort the next time to make a "once in a lifetime" memory! 'Cause that's what it's all about! Forget about "something you can tell your grandkids" my grandkids DON'T care!!

I like to do two shows per tour.... I already did both Orlandos, and I don't really have any regrets... Different vibe in different sections... and I enjoyed it both times, despite it being mostly the same setlist.... As it turns out, I'm seeing this tour a 3rd time in Boston, which wasn't planned. Turns out I need to be in Boston for work that same week... and how can I be in the same city as Paul, and NOT go see him? But that will be it for me.

Your Boston story reminds me of seeing him in Citifield a few years ago. My family had decided on a trip to NYC before the McCartney concerts were announced. When that happened my wife said we had to try and go see him especially since we were planning to be there anyway. (only one show)

I have seen Cheap Trick twenty one times, so I do understand seeing an act multiple times. I never tire of seeing them. But they cost about $25-$75 a ticket, depending on where you sit, or stand. And they play Albuquerque a lot. If I lived somewhere McCartney played all the time, I would have seen him many more times. Even at $250 a pop. But I can't be travelling and paying those prices to go to other states and cities anymore. I am glad I got to see him eight times, he puts on an amazing show. But my concert money this year went to Cheap Trick and Tom Petty, two acts that came to New Mexico.

I often wondered what the term "GROUPIE" meant..this is what I found: Obsessive research and knowledge concerning the "likes/dislikes," genevation, habits, pet peeves, and other extraneous trivia concerning the idol are attributes shared among this stereotypical group of fans. This overly exhuberant fan exhibits traits such as promiscuity, daring and often irrational behavior, as well as, loss of self control when exposed to the object of their obsessions. Most commonly viewed as consumed by their interest, as opposed to the normal realm of enjoyment experienced by the great majority of public. Groupies at The Beatles concerts would often dissolve into tears, screaming fits and hysterics at the mere sight of the band's entrance to the stage. That's not me..

I am going to three shows this tour. I sprang for floor seats for all three shows. I don't spend money on concerts for anybody else anymore As there is no one else i would rather go to see. I have seen a lot of concerts and believe me a lot of artists are not worth going to see anymore I would rather spend $300 a ticket to see Paul than to go to some expensive restaurant which is not my scene. And he's not going to tour forever. I work hard and I don't take fancy vacations so that I can go and do this. And I am sure there are plenty of other people on the board that are like me

Great, to each their own. I was just trying to "hear" some of the reasons people would go to muliple shows and spend good amount of money. Definitely not passing judgement on anyone.

I have seen McCartney more than any other artist live, very few other artist have I seen more than once. The only other ones I can think of off the top of my head are Billy Joel, Elton John, The Who, Led Zepplin and Bruce Srpingsteen.

When I was 16 and in high school, I was so thrilled he was touring and so devoted that I saw him all four nights at MSG. I initially had tickets to the first and last shows, and was invited on the spur of the moment by friends to see him the other two. Now, with more things going on in my life, I would only see one show, if he was to play where I live. I wouldn't travel to see him. For me, it's excessive in terms of cost and time. I did see both shows at Wrigley, though, and from the fourth row one of the nights. I'd have only gone one night if it wasn't for the fact that I needed to film something very specific for a project I was working on at the time.
