Very disappointed. I think Paul should have stayed out of this very difficult election. I'm sure he is well-intentioned, but maybe ill-informed. Paul prides his Liverpool working class roots. Clinton is not a champion of the working class, but rather the elite class, the very people throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars around at this Hamptons event.
You really think a longtime civil rights supporter like Paul would sit still for a bigot like Trump becoming president if he could help stop it? Hillary's not my ideal choice either, but sometimes the lesser of evils really is less evil.
Unfortunately, the nuance behind a choice like this is lost in a public festive endorsement of a candidate like this one. Since it is such a sticky one, as I said, I think he should have stayed out of it. I personally am not being coerced into choosing a lesser evil who shuns her party's progressive base.
Nothing "sticky" about this election. We have the fascist bigot vs. the non-fascist non-bigot. Personally, I have zero respect for self-righteous progressives who won't lower themselves to vote for an imperfect alternative to the most dangerous U.S. major party presidential nominee in history. But if we want to continue this we should probably move over to the political thread in Talk More Talk.

Another white male billionaire coming out against Trump. This guy needs to work on his base.

Paul didn't get American citizenship automatically upon marrying an American? Gain dual citizenship? His kids are half-American, but choose to be British subjects and were born in the U.K., but are still half-American, aren't they.

No, that gives you legal alien status (aka eligible for green card). It doesn't give you citizenship.

You have to apply for citizenship and can do so a certain number of years after getting the green card. Would you believe my nephew's Ukrainian born wife, who has a PhD, is worried about passing the citizenship test? Her bachelor's, master's and PhD are all from US universities.

Paul's kids (excepting Beatrice) are considered natural born American citizens as their mother was an American, regardless of the country where they were born (that's what allowed Ted Cruz to run for president, despite being born in Canada to a Cuban father). You don't "choose" a citizenship, they have joint citizenship. If you are an American citizen, you retain those rights unless you specifically renounce them for citizenship in a foreign country . The McCartney kids did not do that. Stella has talked recently about how she considers herself an American in addition to British, juggles having two passports (American and English) pays her taxes to both countries.

Paul married Linda, an American citizen, in 1969.

And your point is?

That doesn't make him a citizen. It makes their children citizens. But he's allowed to live here while he's married to an American if he wants.

And of course Nancy is an American, so the same applies with her.

I think this man is our best choice for 2016 he's got my vote!

^ Amen To That!!! Paul and Ringo!!!

To become a U.S. citizen through marriage, Paul would have to sell his non-American homes as you cannot have a residence in another country while applying for naturalization. He of course would never do that.
-
I don't think Paul has any intention of becoming a naturalized US citizen. He didn't in all the years he was married to Linda. Why would he now? He has homes in the US and UK that I am aware of. He doesn't need to be a US citizen to perform music here. I am guessing for Paul, it's a non-issue.
-
Paul would have to be an idiot to become a citizen. The taxes alone would ruin him.
-
Paul couldn't be Sir Paul if he were an American. He serves the Crown. A subject of Queen Elizabeth II. I wouldn't trade in that title either. It must be fulfilling to know one was successful enough to get the approval of the Queen. If one wants to become a British citizen, do you have to sell all of your properties and renounce your American citizenship? How does that work.

It is not your "success" or "fame" that gets you knighted (or MBE, OBE, etc.) It is your "service" to the crown, i.e. your contribution to the British economy. http://mentalfloss.com/article/21056/how-does-one-become-knight You would have to renounce your American citizenship, but I don't think you'd have to sell your U.S. properties. Plenty of Brits own property here!

^^ I meant in being successful at being a worthy human being. Service a better word. Thank you, Nancy. Thank you for the explanation.

I want Hill and Bill and Tim to win SO BAD (two Presidents for the price of one! All that combined wealth of experience and knowledge, and they're brilliant) and was proud to see Paul fund-raising for the Dems (course, you'd hardly expect to see him touting Trump) !
