Paul & Ringo against gun violence
-
I love Paul for his music. I'm not a fan of celebrities using their position to promote whatever pet causes they happen to endorse. I understand why they do it. Imagine having all this money, fame, and adulation for simply entertaining people. It's not enough, you need more to feel fulfilled. So, they adopt certain causes.....I understand it, but don't care for it personally. I just wish Paul would keep his opinions to himself when it comes to presidential politics. He didn't need to endorse Kerry and he didn't need to insult Bush when he entertained the Obama White House. He's an international treasure and should stay above the fray. Individual causes, whatever they are, are fine. But no need to insult half the country by attacking or endorsing.

I think the British have no business speaking up about anything in America. They are not "It" USA USA USA.
then why do Americans insist on speaking up on any issue in any country that strikes their fancy at the moment? anyone has a right to speak up who's got an opinion. Period. I'm not from Saudi Arabia but I don't like their laws only allow one religion to be practiced there. I'm going to speak up about it. why? Because I can. I am an American. It is UnAmerican to not allow someone to speak out even if you don't agree with them. So, go chanting USA all you want to. I'll chant it but the difference is I understand what it means to be an American. USA> USA USA Go free speech! Speak out and up!!! (and take your licks if you're a d*mb*ss)
Ha Ha! funny...Well for one thing America gets calls from other countrys that say "Help us be free" They don't even know what freedom is. One part of freedom is speech and speech threatens leaders that want to be the speakers of it all. Just like you say they demand one belief or another. I knew that man from Britain He kept talking about evrytine he had a problem with what ever he would call his solicitor. He said it a few times. At first I thought what is that? Like a senator or something. I thought people here usually don't call unless we want a law or something really demanding. To much goverment control there for me. I bet they do want to know evertime somebody lets a fart, they want to smell it.

A solicitor is a lawyer basically. Nothing to do with the government. This is a very strange thread, but then again i'm from Britain so i guess i shouldn't be commenting
Someone might shoot me

umm...what man from Britian? what man are you talking about? and you want to squash Paul's free speech so don't go talking about freedom unless you're willing to understand what it's about and pay it's price

it was the Beatles who first moved Pop musicians into having causes and giving opinions on personal matters...and it wasn't Brian Epstein's idea either

I can't stop him from talking about Americas guns. I just wish the hell they wouldn't. Because now I and others will have to get louder. Hes British and he nor Ringo can take away the second amendment. Many Americans do feel the fight for the second Amendment. Thanks to whom ever told me what a solicitor was. Is it private what you talk to a solicitor about?
-
The position of the president of the united states of America is to uphold the constitution. When he starts to try and push around the second amendment he is not taking his oath seriously. Congress won't pass many laws because it violates other amendments. I want England to get it through their head.

the president has never said anything about taking away guns. That is a lie pushed by the conservative agenda. He has stated he wants background checks and I ask those conservatives: What are you afraid of? what are you hiding? also, they want less regulations on guns then on my uterus. go figure.

I've avoided this pretty psycho thread, but things need to be said: The Beatles had a long and proud history of speaking out about issues they thought were important, from refusing to play segregated shows in 1964 when Jim Crow was still rampant in the South, to supporting the peace movement to Lennon and McCartney separately but similarly criticizing the British policy in Northern Ireland in the '70s. If you don't like your musical artists to be outspoken or have opinions, stick to Justin Bieber.

He is married to an American and he owns several homes in America. He probably spends half his year here. That goes for Ringo also. His ex-partner was murdered by gun by an American in America. I think that gives them the right to say anything they damn well please about it. The second amendment does not gives people the right to kill whomever or whatever they please. It doesn't even say you can own a gun for private purposes. Read it carefully. It has been completely perverted by the NRA.
-
I don't see the problem at all with Paul or Ringo supporting this and I'm American so what if they're British, they are just saying their opinion on guns in general, guns are guns no matter if its american or not, and Paul & Ringo both lost a friend do to a gun so they have every right to state their opinion about them.
-
Only got one thing to say... Silly conservatives. Just go stick your heads in the sand and ignore the real problems.
You guys are brilliant at that. Thank you Paul and Ringo for speaking up and supporting what is right in this world.
-
I'm not against guns because I believe that responsible adults should be able to own dangerous things. What I don't like is how the gun advocates behave like douchebags to make their point.
-
Do Paul or Ringo mention in their articles if their bodyguards ever carry guns to protect them? I really wonder because it might be much easier to say, 'I don't like guns" when you have a bunch of bodyguards running around with or without guns making sure you are protected. And you have a nice security system at home, no worries as you have so much money that you can afford protections that 'normal' individuals cannot afford to take for themselves. In the small place I live we are having a rash of homicides this year. 24 so far. And our Mayor is clueless to solve the problem. But he has bodyguards and his driver rides him around protected in a tinted out Chevy Tahoe 24/7. So this dude is already wealthy and does not have to live in the same city as I do. I mean he is here, but he is not living in the same horrible conditions as the average person. I just think Ringo and Paul have a right to their opinions, but until they live the life of a average American, they have no idea what they are advocating for us here on gun control. The criminals have the guns and we have no help from the police.
-
Trust me. I've seen worse. Much worse.
-
I have been robbed at gun-point -- a pistol literally pointed in my face. I can say with absolute certainty that if I had been armed myself, it would have done me no good. And, for the record: This was back in the '90s, and I don't live in "the hood." This was in an upper-middle-class community.
-
I recall when Fox ( t.v.)News put out a "teaser" on this to try to get you to watch their news broadcast that night. They made it sound like Paul and Ringo had gotten into an actual fist fight with some people over this issue. Which would be using violence to protest violence. Turned out they'd just signed some petitions or something like that.
-
What?!!??? Fox News misrepresent something???? Neverrrrrrrrrr....
