on FB and the Examiner, this has brought out the worst in people. they have actually said that since he's British, he doesn't have the right to an opinion about guns. well, he was effected by a gun in the US. I'd say that gives him the right to his opinion even if it's different then mine.

Since the two dead members of his ex-band died as a result of violent attacks, one murdered by gun directly, the other where knife stabbing was a contributing cause, he and Ringo certainly have a right to their opinion. Which I also share.

      I agree 😃

The U.S. has a president who incites violence with one breath, and then denounces it with the next breath.

My cousin has been to The Garlic Festival in the past. Thank God she wasn't there this year. We have an administration in office now that inspires hatred and then wonders why we have more gun violence then ever.

There were 14 mass shootings  during Democrat Obama's  8 years in office and 18 now during Republican Trump's  2 1/2 years in office. I don't think that even a proverbial 5th grader could explain it to his supporters and followers. As long as we keep allowing a violent, self absorbed sex fiend to run our country, this is what we'll have.

Please take the politics elsewhere.  It is pretty disgusting to see people trying to use horrific tragedies to score political points.

And those stats aren't even accurate.  In just the city of Chicago in the year 2015, America's "mass shooting capital", there were 18 mass shootings in that year alone.  And that was well before the current president was in office.  This has been a growing problem for a long time, and I'm all for anyone who has a solution, regardless of party.

There’s actually a lot more in the past 2 1/2 years (52) and over 70 during Obama’s 8 years as President. That being said, I think that while Trump hasn’t helped matters, these loonies would still be out there killing people.

Please add me to the list of those who don't like guns.

In the case in El Paso, the gunnan's retoric aligned with the presidents own. This is not the first case of this and I am worried about the 4 American congresswomen who are supposed to be "sent back?"  to America!? which absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. Most Americans have such multidiverse lineage you would need to get an Ancestry DNA test to try and figure out what country, the racist chant even is referring to. Just so low, so unAmerican, so ridiculous.

                    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/04/us/politics/trump-mass-shootings.html

The solution? Was just in England where guns are outlawed. People there do use knives. It is next to impossible to have a mass knifing. While there are knifings and some people do get killed, it is NOWHERE NEAR the gun deaths in this country. I felt much safer there. They also have CCTV cameras EVERYWHERE. When something bad happens, they back the cameras up and follow you back home. This was proven in an attack in the tubes (subways).  We need to stop violence on TV, we have become immune to it. We need to stop violent video games, where young children even, shoot and kill hundreds and thousands of people, as if it is nothing. It used to be little pacmans and aliens, but now it is people.  This is reprogramming you to be a killer of people. Some say its just a game, however the way the brain works and it has been proven. The brain visualizes violence and it has been proven that it makes you more violent. When people, including children, kill people in a game, the brain is processing that as an action you are taking.

Here is an article about other countries and gun buy back programs that lead to a marked decrease in gun deaths.

For those who don't think that Trump, as someone who has constantly been in the public eye for several years, is not one of the primary reasons for the distinct escalation of violence on our planet, is sorely mistaken. They have obviously forgotten how he divided the entire human race into 2 well defined groups before he came into office. WINNERS and LOSERS. In the same month that he swore on The Bible, the following event occured.  He and his devoted followers are as about as far removed from being TRUE AMERICANS as anyone can be. Americans have a Constitutional and GOD given Right and Obligation to stand up against his beliefs.

"A pair of bullies targeted a 10-year-old Iowa girl on a school bus — holding her on the floor and scrawling the word “loser” across her forehead, her family said.

Raeann Long remains “very hurt and very sad” more than a week after she was held down by a girl as another drew on her face — which included putting a mustache on her upper lip — during their ride home on the bus from Titan Hill Intermediate School in Council Bluffs on Jan. 31, said her grandmother Debra Dabney."

My heart just breaks for this little girl and all people who are victims of bullying.  There needs to be classes reaching and teaching children from kindergarten on, regarding bullying and how we need to treat our fellow humans.  This also needs to be taught in the curriculum/policy and instituted programs at jobs as well.

I should just let this go, but you keep offering political opinion on a forum where we are here in a common purpose of appreciating Paul's music, expecting everyone to agree with you, and then calling those not in agreement sorely mistaken.  I'm not much a fan of Trump the person, but the escalation of violence has been building a long time, and now there are many on the left waiting for the next incident to somehow blame him.  There has been a ton of divisiveness from the left in recent years, and violent acts perpetrated by people with those views (Dayton being a very recent example), yet that is never the fault of anyone but the murderer.  I happen to think that there has been a general devaluing human life in society over several decades rooted in moral relativism, and now we have segments of people who have no moral compass at all.

You are free to believe what you do, as am I, but this particular forum is for chatting about Paul and his music.  There are other forums here where political discussion is more appropriate, which is why I am asking that this kind of stuff goes there.  Those of us who want to talk about Paul's music (there's something that unifies us) can choose to avoid those forums if we want to not see this kind of stuff.

Thanks Oobu it seems that Paul and Ringo are very much against gun violence. Coming from England where there are almost no gun deaths in comparison, it's really cool that Paul put that text idea together. I'm going to give it a go tomorrow!

Also Paul just wrote Who Cares which looks to me like he's against bullying too. I had read that Stella experienced bullying when she was younger.

It seems entirely appropriate for a man who lives in a country with strict gun laws and vanishingly little gun violence to share his wisdom with a nation that has preposterously lax gun laws and tallies new gun massacres weekly.

I'm really proud of Paul for standing up for what's right.  I'm sure this is a very personal issue for him, as he's suffered tragic losses... as we all know his close friend John was killed due to gun violence, and also Mal Evans, close friend to all the Beatles, was killed by gunfire.   And he's seen violence (albeit not with guns) happen to his dear friend George.   The mass shootings are on a much larger scale, imagine 25-50 families (or even more!) suffering losses of loved ones who are every bit as dear to them as the losses Paul has known.  We all have to do our part to end the suffering and violence.

Ditto!! Here's something new from a major Republican Senator...

"Aug 05, 2019 · Nebraska Sen. John McCollister (R) slammed members of his own party Sunday after four mass shootings took place in one week in the country, suggesting that President Donald Trump and his colleagues are “COMPLICIT” by “enabling white supremacy” in the United States. In a thread posted on Twitter, McCollister said that as a lifelong Republican"

Dayton gunman had cocaine, Xanax, alcohol in his system during attack

Alcohol overused is the most violence inducing drug there is. I worked with an Alcohol and Drug Agency in the past.

I listened to a television commentator the other day talking like the fact that he had smoked weed and taken lsd in the past was the contributing factor. People smoking weed and tripping are 999 times more likely to enjoy a nice peaceful concert like Woodstock instead.

                                        Yes, I like 99.2% of Paul's 'Paul'itics as well!! 🙂

Too bad he didn’t have more Xanax and little to no cocaine & alcohol in his system!

This discussion surprises me. Why would anyone be offended that someone is speaking out against gun violence? Is anyone for gun violence?

"You can take away my gun violence when you pry it from my cold, dead hands."

Yes, that will be the result.
