Let's go on with rankings!!!: best vocal interpretations?
-
1. Monkberry Moon Delight 2. Helter Skelter 3. Jet 4. Beware My Love 5. Maybe I'm Amazed 6. Wanderlust 7. Twice In A Lifetime 8. Call Me Back Again 9. After The Ball/Million Miles 10. Blackbird 11. Golden Slumbers

People often go with the flashiest, showiest vocals. Some of these -- Maybe I'm Amazed, The Pound is Sinking, Band on the Run -- are great. But in these sorts of comparisons the beautifully simple vocals tend to get overshadowed. That's why so many of the winners on shows like American Idol are such utter, overwrought garbage. So, much as I love those "big" vocals, here's an alternative list, in no particular order: I Will Blackbird Every Night Here Today Hey Jude Let It Be Baby's Request Waterfalls Somedays You Tell Me Lonesome Town

I'll stick to solo: Tomorrow - love that soul voice Old Siam Sir - Paul rocks out Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five - love that weird nasally voice Let Em In - Wings Over America version Distractions - Subtle Macca Monkberry Moon Delight - Crazy good' One of These Days - spacey Paul Oh Woman Oh Why - very cool

Totally agree with you my friend. In fact, I almost include I Will in my list, Somebody Who Cares too.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "The Back Seat of My Car." I always thought that was an excellent vocal performance by Paul.
-
For me, his best vocal is, and will always be, Oh! Darling. The album Ram has superb vocals throughout, so does Run Devil Run.

I agree that some of the simplest vocals are the best. One of my favorite vocal performances of Paul's is the version of Fool on the Hill on Anthology. It's more a demo, and clearly he knows it's not *the* take, so there's a laid back easy going quality in his vocals that turns out to be quite beautiful. That said, I do love his screaming rockers as well.

Oh! Darling.... the king of kings. The queen of queens. The king of queens. The queen of kings. The greatest ever.

I would add "Tug Of War" to your list. Outstanding vocal. Excellent control on a melody that's tougher to sing than one might assume.
-
Pound is sinking: just amazing range No more lonely nights: good mid range to somewhat higher notes Souvenir: just really soulful later day track. To you: great rocker. Footprints: just the phrasing in this song always did it for me. Junior's Farm: see to you above. Kicked around no more: should have been the single from OTG. That's all I can come up with now for just solo stuff.
-
Winedark Open Sea is another favorite vocal.

We sing from the same hymn book on that one, Nancy!

The Pound is Sinking... "Oh, it didn't happen...." That brief line alone still gives me goose bumps. Shivers. What an amazing vocal. Not sure he has beaten it since.

No love for 'With A Little Luck'???? I'd sneak it in somewhere in the lower half of Paul's top ten vocals,,,It showcases several vocal styles from Paul
