First Solo Album That I Heard By Paul

Listened to London Town, but just once, as a youngster, when all I knew about Wings was they were Paul McCartney's band. Later, when I'd become a fully fledged Beatles kid, the first Paul solo album given to me (on a poor quality recorded cassette) was RAM. I remember at the time being slightly disappointed, because I was expecting every single song to be a Hey Jude or Oh! Darling, etc. Later, as I matured, I realised just how great and varied this album was.

I think for the most part for me it was Paul I started listening to first for the solo albums after I learned about the Beatles break up. And I think too because I saw Paul's All the Best Album in Walmart I just picked it up bought it and listened to it over and over.

I bought London Town and Wings Greatest Hits during the same trip to the record store....if you wanted to be technical about it, I believe I played Wings Greatest Hits first...LOL
-
It was either Give My Regards or Press to Play. I think PTP has stood the test of time better, although I don't really consider GMR as a proper, original album.

Driving Rain/Wingspan... They were being offered as a bundle with special pricing because they came out so close together.

McCartney for me too. I heard Maybe I'm Amazed on the radio and I HAD to have that song. It is still one of my favorites today.

I was into The Beatles first, early as a kid. Think I heard "Venus and Mars" and "Wings at the Speed of Sound" through older brothers maybe their friends, none are McCartney/Wings/The Beatles fans. The first ex-Beatles album that I can remember really grabbed me was "London Town". A pop-musical masterpiece to my ears. For McCartney; a forgettable flop (only #2 on Billboard) that might have sold more if "Mull of Kintyre" had been included.

Not sure if Wings is included in the 'solo' context of this thread...but provided it is, my first post Beatles Paul album was London Town followed by Wings Greatest (both in 1978, but well after London Town was released and at some point shortly after Wings Greatest was released...guessing late summer or early fall??? - but I bought them only weeks apart) In fact, these were my first Paul related purchases, including the Beatles or otherwise...I even bought two more Paul albums (Ram and McCartney) before I ever owned a Beatles album (actually I bought the Red and Blue double albums at the same time, so they are my 'co-first' Beatle albums)

As a child I wasn't really aware of the Beatles. It was always Paul solo for me. Still is in fact.

I heard The Beatles first. It is a bit blurry since it goes back to when I was about eight, but I remember one of my older brothers had "The Blue Album" compilation and something as strange as "The Beatles with Tony Sheridan". I liked Elvis before I heard The Beatles and I remember I thought that it sounded a bit like Elvis and that I liked it a lot. But of course, The Blue Album became a favorite, I have that copy in my collection and inside the gatefold sleeve I have written who is singing the lead vocals on each song and it is not always corret. Anyways, all this babbling... then came "London Town" and "McCartney II" which I remember listening intensely to the whole summer of 1980. "Back to Egg" I found later...
-
It was "McCartney II", was offered the cassette for Christmas 1981 and played it to death on my little mono tape player even if some songs were a bit odd...little did I know that 33+ years later I'd get to see him play one of them, "Temporary Secretary" live !

I'm really struggling to remember. It was probably Band On The Run but also possibly Red Rose Speedway but then again it could of been Ram ???????? I think I might of owned Red Rose Speedway before Band On The Run but I remember I first heard BOTR at a friends home before I got it. It's all a bit hazy after 40 odd years.

McCartney @10 years old!!!

I love this thread! Such a great idea!!
My first McCartney album was "Band on the Run." Simple, balanced, deep, layered, and every bit as good as the Beatles. I was sold

First solo album McCartney. Always loved it, always will. Favorite songs from it (not in order) Junk, Maybe I'm Amazed, Man We Was Lonely and of course Lovely Linda. But like all the songs.

Back in the World was my first introduction to Paul! I had no idea what stuff was Beatles and what stuff was Paul McCartney...I just knew I liked all of it. My first studio album was Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. Loved it then and love it now.
