A query by Frodes triggered by members references to this Fan Club set me thinking. Considering this fan club ran twenty years or more we have little reference material here on this message board. I'd love to read members recollections of this - how much the membership was - how it worked - how it impacted your lives personally? What offers and opportunities did it bring? I know it is sorely missed by some - and others would like to see something similar again, but I'd personally like to see this thread focussed on documenting the history and impact it had in your relationships with Paul and Wings - rather than become a "I want it back" thread Is there anybody here nowadays that worked at the other end dealing with letters, applications, promotions? I'd love to hear your side of it! Martin

Hi, I was a member of Wings/Paul McCartney Fun Club for a long time. I don't really remember what the price was for membership each year. Think it was about 15 GBP including shipping to Germany. I always couldn't wait for the next issue. There was no such thing as internet (except for the last few years of CS) and therefore no real possibility to be informed about all things Macca. But the info's quantity wasn't that much and - naturally - very pro-Paul and not a single critical word. But I can't blame the editors for that. It's surely just normal for a fan club. But the best thing for me was the photo content. Always rare stuff in good quality. It was a logical step to stop CS after Linda died, but I miss CS to this day.

Aside from all the nice magazines, posters and other knick knacks, I recall 1) getting the Russian album free back when it was a highly sought after rarity and 2) getting to see Paul live for the first time back in 1989 via an offer through the fan club. ...and yes, I used to carry my card membership in my wallet and even once tried to use it as a second form of ID (I was young ops: )

We were given the opportunity to purchase tickets to Paul's "come-back" tour in 1989 and also the New World Tour in '93, receiving 10th row from the stage at Giants Stadium! The CS color magazine was superb as well.

I always looked forward to receiving the Club Sandwich magazines. I, too, carried the membership card in my billfold, but I didn't use it as an ID. I still have all my membership cards and all the magazines I received. I managed to collect some that came out before I joined over the years, too. So many surprises came over the years--the Russian album and the tickets for the 90 and 93 tours. Can never thank Paul enough for that. From what happened with the last issue--the Linda tribute issue--it may have been Linda's baby. It's fun to go back and look at them and see names of people that I have met since that time--pre-internet days.

I was only a member for one year, around 1987 and Wings Fun Club sent me a free copy of Choba CCCP with my first issue. It was a great magazine with some brilliant and rare photographs.

I remember coming home sick from work in August, 1989, only to find the Club Offer for tour tickets in the mail. Man, did I feel better suddenly! Took them up on the offer for New York for Madison Square Garden, December 11, 1989. Early 1990 had another offer for tickets and got Atlanta fifth row. Again, in 1993, Atlanta fifth row through the club. Those were the days.

I was a member from 1979 'til the end. Got them all in the attic. I seem to remember Paul writing a message in the last one (with all the great Linda photos) saying that he and Linda had started the Fun Club and he felt it would not be right for it to continue without her. They had a lot of input as did that PR man we are not supposed to talk about!!!!!!!!!! I got seats 6 rows from the front Wembly, London 1989 and Birmingham 93. Photos were all unique and mainly by Linda

TOO OLD FOR ALL THIS WEB CHAT!but willing to learn!

Now that I think of it, you hardly ever see Club Sandwich magazines for sale on the internet...guess we all want to hang on to 'em.

There were several at Beatlefest--and not too expensive. I cried and cried in the Linda tribute issue. So sad. You just never knew what was coming when they arrived.
