The excitement was incredible, never forget when I got my membership-card. We used to treasure it more than our passports and showed them to Paul when we met him. Every once in a while somebody you knew then had a picture in the gallery corner, there used to be FB`s, Fanbooks , that were sent all over the world and returned to you a year later with the typical questions at that time. My teenager years are absolutely linked to CS and the friends I met there,. Love to Jimmy the Italian, Zacca Macca and Debbie in London, Peter and Roger from Norway if you are out here somewhere.

I was a member from around 1987 i guess, so it was a nice magazine I thought a the time. The big thing was off course the christmas offer, we got the choba B CCCp for free, that was something incredible! I think the magazine got even better during the years, I was sad it ended off course, but it was a good choice i guess. It was paul and Linda's magazine for sure. I am still tryin to get all the copies of the magazine, just bought nr 21. The offers (T-shirts etc) weren't cheap i remember. When you look back at it it's a very nice magazine, with these beautiful pictures inside.

Could you tell us more about the fanbooks and how they worked? Sounds interesting. Martin

Well, FB`s were little selfmadebooks, where you posted a question on each side, like: Whats your fav. song, are you jealous of Linda, fav. appearance, all kind of teenie questions. Then these books were sent to your closest Paul friend, and she used to pass it to her friends. In the end after a year this booklet came from Germany to US, to Japan, Ireland, Norway, Italy , Finland, England and back to Germany, It was absolutely exciting to receive you full book back after months. Then you made appointments when you meet next time at mpl or St. Johns Wood. We would work all year beside school and then meet in the holidays at Soho Square, sit in the park, sing delightfull songs to the mpl stuff - haha, while one of us was on guard and screamed for us, when Paul or Linda arrived. Then a mad race started across the road or up to AIR Studios. I am talking about the early eighties, we were all around 15 to 22 years old. Great teenage times.

i was a member for about 4 years up until the last issue I was offered a refund on what was left of my subscription. i asked for the money to be donated to an animal charity of their choice, and got a very nice letter back thanking me. the go veggie issue of club sandwich changed my life I'm still veggie to this day. bring it back or at very least a compile all the club sandwiches into a book id buy it as would most Paul fans. Geoff bakers articles were great his reports on events made you feel as if you were actually there. aww great days much missed.

The thing i always hated about geoffs reports were he slagged off british audiences, and i found that very insulting It was in his concert write up for the 1990 tour (or 93?) and he said we were all crap and sat down and were rubbish fans compared to abroad!!!! Someone official like that should not generalise. I stood up and sang and was in heaven at my 1990 and 93 show. Anything he wrote for the club after that seemed to have that same slant. But as i said on the other pages here i LOVE the club, and i agree with those who say the days before the internet you would look forward to this stuff so so so much.

I remember Geoff rubbishing the British audiences! I remember that write-up very well. I believe he did that in several articles which sort of bothered me. I've seen Paul live in the States many times and have also seen him in Britain once and Germany twice. I thought the European audiences were just as enthusiastic as American audiences. I've occasionally been in American audiences where they were total and complete duds. Not in the most recent '05 tour, but in the tours prior to that.

I wondered where the tone about British audiences came from, I never knew it came from, or was supported by, someone on his own team . Anyway back to the subject of the Fun Club ...... that subject about UK crowds could take this thread off-track big time! Everybody here seems to have had a close relationship with the club - many writing and receiving responses from various staff members. Does anybody have any actual numbers of members involved was it the hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands? Did you have unique membership numbers that could give us a clue? Martin

I wonder whether the "12" represented the month because the first membership card says Dec 83. So maybe if I joined in dec 82 that's where the "82" part came from? I'd give anything to still be getting them magazines..

I joined the fun club in early 1974 and my membership number was 2546. And thats how it stayed until the early 1980's when it suddenly changed to 11/80125, much to my consternation. Its possible that the 11/80 does denote November 1980 and that the 125 meant that I was the 125th longest serving member at that point. As mentioned in a previous post,I quickly managed to secure from an ex-member all the various newsletters from (1973) the previous year. The earliest written communication from the club that I have is a typed A4 sheet of paper, date stamped 12 FEB 1973, and headed simply WINGS with an address PO BOX 3, WIRRAL, Cheshire L60 8QH. The letter is signed by Lucy and reads: Dear (name withheld) Thank you for writing to me about the Wings Fun Club. Unfortunately the announcement was a little premature but I am keeping your name on file and as soon as appications are ready I will send you your form. Wings are delighted by your interestin the group and hope that you will enjoy their new single "Hi Hi Hi" and " C Moon". Meanwhile I am returning your subscription and will be in touch with you again as soon as possible. yours Lucy. The very first newsletter was headed Paul McCartney And Wings Fan Club with a London address. Made up of printed two A4 sheets stapled together, the content is mainly about the ATV tv special concert and the forthcoming Red Rose Speedway lp,which dates this first edition as late March/early April 1973. The newsletter reveals the following about the artwork for RRS which I think is quite nice. The back cover pic may puzzle you,- it was taken at the Paris Olympia gig, during the interval somebody took the flowers and white soft toy on the stage and left them under Paul's mike for when he returned. This newsletter was put together by Claire.
