It's like being a fly on the wall! Very cool! Thanks for posting!

nice interesting that 'getting closer' had been around that early in the Wings songwriting backlog
wonder how it would have sounded studio-recorded with the 1973 lineup instead of the 1979 BTTE lineup

I didn't realise Getting Closer went back that far.... This is the kind of stuff I want boxed in a massive collection. Absolutely wonderful.

Pre-salamander! It's actually fairly close to the piano version on that "Piano Tape" from the '70s also.

I owe Paul for teaching me the meaning of a salamander and a suffragette! .... Paul 101.

'Getting Closer' was on the 1974 'Piano Tape' so its been known for some time that it pre-dated its BTTE October 1978 recording by a good four years at least. And now its five years.
Perhaps one day we'll get to hear the Scottish farm summer 1973 rehearsals?

I could have sworn I heard him sing "salamander" in that '73 version.

Echoing what everyone else has said about "Getting Closer" being around since the 1974 demos. This is pretty cool.

So Paul gave a mini-concert at Dustin Hoffman's house? I wish my puter could access videos. Hoffman famously challenged him to write a song right off the top off his head in just a few minutes, and was astonished when McCartney came up with his Picasso ditty. The movie star shouldn't have been so surprised. It was Macca

I'm guessing the Hoffman 'Picasso's Last Word' happened prior to the occasion depicted in the links posted above...since it seems pretty obvious that the version played on that occasion seemed to already have some tangible level of substance at that point in time
