I'll throw my 2 cents in on the Driving Rain thing... IN MY OPINION it's one of his best album. Its tied with Ram, Venus and Mars and Flowers in the Dirt. I r eally love it! But i'd take Driving Rain over any of his other albums (including Band on the Run) any day! LOVE IT

What?! lol Band on the Run is grossly overrated and Driving Rain is grossly underrated

band on the run has songs like band on the run let me roll it mrs vangebilt,1985,bluebird cant get any better than that ,you said that cause you have tired by the overexplosure of band on the run

I agree it has been far too overexposed. The songs are great but to me Driving Rain is full of just as many great songs and has not yet had the recognition it rightly deserves. I think songs like Lonely Road and About You and Your Loving Flame can easily stand up to Band on the Run, Jet and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five

I could do without "Your Loving Flame."

Really? I would put Your Loving Flame on par with My Love and Maybe I'm Amazed. In both sentiment and musicality. Just because its about she-who-must-not-be-named doesn't mean it's any less beautiful and moving

It's not the "she-who-must-not-be-named" factor, it's the Manilow factor!

I can't believe you put Your Loving Flame in the same bracket as Maybe I'm Amazed. MIA is a masterpiece, YLF is pretty ordinary really.

I agree with you about the women, but disagree with you about the song. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE it if he did that one live again! I mean, Abe and Rusty were on the record and Brain and Wix have played it plenty on tour, so....I say go for it! And just to show that Paul hasn't completely forgotten about Driving Rain, on the bonus feature on GENYC dvd (the Ed Sullivan marquee gig), he's talking to the band, discussing what they should play, and Paul chimes in with "what about something off of Driving Rain?" Obviously they didn't play anything from the album, but it shows he's not forgotten!

Out of his pure studio releases that contain new tracks then i'd say Pipes Of Peace. However it still contains a few gems like : Keep Under Cover So Bad Through Our Love ( a bit overblown ) & the title track It's basically TOW leftovers & a few new tracks thrown in mix. As ive said many times thank god he came out with Press To Play after this & Broad St.

At least Pipes has "Through Our Love," "Sweetest Little Show," and the title track to commend it; the rest are rather bland. I've always preferred the Broad Street version of "So Bad" to the one on Pipes.

                              Totally agree

Try to work only with people, who are stronger and better than you. Exactly they help you growing.

The problem is that, to me, Band on the Run doesn't have any weak songs (Maybe Picasso's Last Words). Driving Rain has a few: From A Lover to a Friend, Tiny Bubbles, Driving Rain, She's Given Up Talking, Spinning on An Axis, Rinse the RainDrops. The great songs on DR (I Do, Heather, Lonely Road, About You, Heather) don't make up for it. DR is a below-average Paul album. Not his worst, but it's weak.

Wow, of the ones you single out, only "Spinning on An Axis" and the title cut are lacking, and neither one rate as all-time stinkers like "Loup (1st Indian on the Moon)," "Darkroom," or "Temporary Secretary."

For me it's a tie between Off The Ground & Driving Rain

I don't get that one, either; perhaps they're the only Macca albums he's heard?

Nope. Heard them all. Those two are my least favourite. Those are the two I consider his worst. His best (in no particular order): Band On The Run McCartney McCartney II Flowers In The Dirt CHOBA B CCCP Wings Over America Press To Play I did like Off The Ground when it first came out. Now, it just sounds to me like FITD left-overs. Driving Rain does have some great performances, but whenever I'd play it, I found myself skipping a number of the tracks. I'm not saying there isn't anything of merit on those records; it's really just a matter of preferring a lot of his other albums.

And just to show that Paul hasn't completely forgotten about Driving Rain, on the bonus feature on GENYC dvd (the Ed Sullivan marquee gig), he's talking to the band, discussing what they should play, and Paul chimes in with "what about something off of Driving Rain?"

has anyone got a link to that please?

                                      What was Oklahama like?

I used to say Pipes of Peace. But because I absolutely LOVE So Bad, Through Our Love, Say Say Say, and the title track, I've changed my mind. MAF now get's the honor. It's the low point for me.

I love those, and I love The Other Me, Keep Under Cover and Sweetest Little Show. I also have a soft spot for The Man (prefer it to Say Say Say actually). Which makes over half the album pretty damn good to me. I'm not quite sure why Average Person gets as much hate as it does - yes, it sounds patronising and is no great shakes as a song, but it is another story song, the kind of thing Paul fans usually really enjoy. I think it's being misinterpreted somewhat. The real hole in POP is the two back to back instrumentals, Hey Hey and Tug of Peace (I suppose that's not really an instrumental but it's so flippant it might as well be). Apart from the various contributions by Wings members in the 70s, that's the first time I've ever found filler on a McCartney album. And it's filler to no good reason as he had many many tracks available to him at the time, most of which remain unreleased. If he had properly recorded Seems Like Old Times and revisited Hear Me Lover with a view to expanding it (retaining the link with TOW) then we'd be looking at a much better perceived album.
