I think you have to be a solid, convinced McCartney fan to REALLY like this album. It's not my favorite, but it's not one I get very often. And by the way, the Other Me is the standout track, to me. It's a beautiful song. The sad thing is that I didn't realize "dust-bin lid" was a clunker until I saw it on this or some other forum.
I found out from one of the forums that "dustbin lid" is Cockney rhyming slang for "kid." So: "I acted like a kid." Not the clunker I used to think it was.

Pipes of Peace is perhaps Paul's most melodic solo album ever. Side 1 in particular is pure ear candy, with 'Hey Hey' & 'Tug of Peace' the only throwaways on the album. The problem wasnt the songwriting but the production. Would love to hear what Tug of War & Pipes of Peace would have sounded like with Paul's more quirkier production. Very underrrated album.

Does that also mean I have to take with me that my favourite track off Press to Play was "Stranglehold'?

Not at all!
I love every song on PTP.

I too confess to liking "The Man"--its over all light smooth happy "sparkling" sounding thing it's got goin' for it
1980's "sparkles" I love the songs "The Other Me" and "Pipes of Peace." It's okay to me that POP song has a children's chorus--reminds you of the old slogan "War Is Not Good For Children and Other Living Things." And of course I adore "So Bad"--can't help it
This thread has got me wanting to hear my POP cd pronto!

Vintage McCartney, great tune.

Have never understood why so many on this board dislike/hate "The Man". I, too, love that song. Bought the album (POP) the day it was released back in 1983 and continue to consider it a favorite to listen to on a dreamy, sunny afternoon. The songs you mentioned have such a clean, crisp sound with a nice vibe. There are some on here who have such a disdain for the 80's, but I am not one of them.

Omg... Brutal. In anycase was just going to say, KUC should have been a single! I dig that track. POP is just not at all edgy. There's little to no actually 'rock' music on it, straying far from his Beatle roots IMO, which is fine to stray if the new direction is stellar, but it's just too sappy for me. really all form and no substance too, and again that's fine if the form can carry the song, but it doesn't always on POP for me. Interesting stuff, but quite a drop off for Paul at that point. Overall I'm definitely one of those guys turned off by all the 80s production techniques, and the dumb fads that became popular during that time. Didn't make for great music. All these great studio features and instruments came out and no one really knew how to put it together.

I've always loved "Keep Under Cover". The 80s production and drum sound makes it sound a little weaker than it could have otherwise been, but it's a great song and one of my favourites on the underrated "Pipes Of Peace".
