Missing RAINCLOUDS credits for Denny
-
Why isn't Denny credited for co - writing ? After all these reissues are meticulously researched...I thought
-
Yup this is turning out to be a real popular thread. However I didn't expect it to be this popular So let me elaborate : While Rainclouds is only a B- side I' m stunned that The attention to detail - which I would have thought is the whole point of these elaborate reissues- doesn't extend to songwriting credits when the co-writer in question isn't someone " important". Given Paul himself is a music publisher and - how should I put it - rather sensitive when it comes to "credits" - even if it's just the order in which songwriters are credited - I feel that the omission on the TOW reissue of Denny Laine' s contribution to Rainclouds is in bad style. Surely one of the greatest songwriters doesn't need to hold grudges after over 30 years.
-
I think its just an oversight, admittedly one that shouldn't have been allowed to happen on such a high profile release. It wasn't deliberate and I'm sure Paul doesn't hold any grudges against Denny. When their paths do cross they get on fine by all accounts.

Maybe a deal was struck between them & Paul bought out Denny's credits (e.g., Mull of Kintyre)? Great song, btw.

I can understand someone's rights to royalties being purchased. But a songwriter's credit should never be eliminated. It is a revision of history. Denny co wrote Mull of Kintyre. That is a fact of history. He may no longer get royalties from the song, but that does not mean he no longer co wrote it.

Yes,whoever owns the publishing, the original songs authors will always be credited. Someone has just slipped up along the line. Naughty naughty.

I'm sure Denny Who? won't care so long as his royalty cheque covers his next wig.

So, what happened to Macca's writing credits on 'Give Peace a Chance'?

That's really a different kettle of (shaved) fish. Given that Paul contributed nothing to the song in the first place, its not too difficult to see why Yoko (who probably did co-write it) would want Paul's credit removed. Or maybe it was another genuine mistake?

Indeed.

Denny's writing credit for 'Rainclouds' has been removed from the PRS (UK collection society) website. The credit on the b-side of 'Ebony and Ivory' was obviously a mistake.
