Good to see some level headed sense on this thread. Lets hope freedom of speech for all is alive and well. And that freedom can be given to all the oppressed on this board, freedom can be given to those who have been denied access to this board. And that freedom will be heard on this board - just NOT the 2001 song by Paul! So, let us not be blind to our differences. But let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the board safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small board. We all breathe the same music. We all cherish our heroes future. And we are all mortal. Remember fun, discussion, agreement and disagreement make life interesting. As we put aside our differences and make a fresh start all should be welcome and hostility should end for evermore.
You sound very motivational Plastic!!

I agree with Kedame that it gets "tiresome," to say the least, to read "criticism after criticism." To continually lament and harp on the fact that Paul is not exactly as he used to be in his glory days. That's ludicrous, and worse. He's only human, in fact I saw in the latest "US" mag a recent pic of him pushing his own luggage in the New York airport.
: come on susy, put a different record on.....if you are that sick of it why continue to 'comeback'with the same old tired tales?......we get it susy, you think paul is a wonderful example of humanity in every way, anyone who who dares to suggest otherwise is just evil and vindictive, especially on the poor mans own website blah blah blah. it might actually surprise you just how much these people [including me] really adore paul mccartney full stop......offering advice and career calls does not mean that we are any less fans than you..and infact judging by your own limited knowledge on many things and certainly your limited experiances in seeing him live and buying all his albums perhaps many of us are infact 'bigger fans ' than you?....perhaps.?
Look, I understand it can get tiring for you to keep reading the same things Susy says a lot, but it gets tiring for her, too. You don't have to resort to personal attacks by pointing out the fact that she hasn't been to see Paul. I haven't either, but I still know a great deal. You don't know Susy's financial situation or where she lives. I think it is insensitive of you to say some of the things you did. If you don't like some of the things Paul does, that's fine...but please don't hold it against those that enjoy most or all of his work, especially by calling them out on not having access to stuff you do have access to.
I don't see any personal attacks from Lazy at all. He is simply trying to let Susy see it from the other side. As nice as it is to stick up for somebody, Im sure Susy can handle herself knowing her track record for personal attacks.
Okay, maybe I was too forward with the "personal attack" term, but I still think bringing up her limited concert experiences and limited number of albums was still kind of low when you don't know the circumstances someone might be in. And don't you think lazy can speak for himself, as you say Susy can speak for herself? Bit of a double standard there, eh? He seems to have no problems speaking, I should say.

I'm not trying to get into an argument or anything, but you did talk about her limited concert experiences like that makes her less of a fan... And you don't have to put my username in quotes, but in case you want to next time, it's "kedame."

That's my absolute favourite of the collection of "The Nothing thas Paul has done" or so. Paul could title his new album "More Nothing" too. As he (repeat like robots) "has done nothing since the 60s." : After "Kisses on the Bottom" any title is possible.

Too bad it's too late, the music record business is almost collapsed. A #1 in the UK not even selling 10000 records is not serious. Today selling a thousand records it's a big hit. : So Paul could score a bit hit or a number one with that, and they would be only a few thousands or hundred records... that kind of business doesn't make sense anymore. 2:

No double standard. I was referencing Susy's ability to throw out personal attacks, something lazy didn't do.

We are ALL stuck in our ways.... I couldn't be more agree with you PSM, our musical taste is definite in our youth, around 12 to 14 years, that's why music is so powerful in our lifes, in a way,is model who we are... And I could say that I'm stuck on 60 in Beatles era, but I grew up with them and I follow with Paul and Linda, Wings, Paul and Linda and the band in the 90's, and Paul with his current band, maybe is an advantage to grow up with someone because you get older with him at the same time, and you going to accepting this life fact, as you accept that your wife or husband or your friends get older. I've thinking a lot about this, and this is my conclusion, so I can understand people more young who see Paul as a father, and from this position see things that other (like me) couldn't see. For me Paul, the same guy that I admire since I was a girl...simple as that!!

From 1984 onwards everything you put is true for me too.... the pure joy of sitting and watching him on those TV shows was wonderful, i do treasure those memories, and get all nostalgic when i see stuff on you tube (we didn't get a video recorder til 88, but i still have all those tapes too!). It was a wonderful time, and it was my time.. nothing beats your first 5 or 10 years of "fandom" (as much as i hate that word, i couldnt think of another!) I still love Paul, course i do! I'll never stop and his last few studio albums (not in kisses) are top form imho. But he's not that Paul.. but then again i'm not the person i was from 84 to 90 either (i'm old now for a start! )
Plastic Soul Man:
First of all I am not applying this to everyone - that is my disclaimer. This is just a thought to put out there for some good honest debate. Now my Macca era is the 1980's, by my era, I mean the era I first became really aware of Paul. Therefore, the albums, singles, videos, tv appearance, look, events etc are all part of my upbringing. This is my Paul, I was there when it was happening and it is what I know. Others will have much early experiences and others later. Therefore, my view is we are always stuck in a time warp, with our first era of 'being there'. This is the Paul I relate everything to, the man, the music, the marriage, the family, the humour and of course the music (some great, some OK and some not so good). However, it is the Paul I still think he is. After LazyD posted those videos from the 89-90 tour the other night, it was a little bit of a shock to me and I ended up watching and listening to a load of video and audio from my past that I remember first hand. Silly things like Paul appearing with Linda on Top of the Pops when E&I hit number one. Paul doing a Buddy Holly special and singing Words of Love in his barn. Paul drinking tea in a disguise on the Noel Edmunds Late Late Breakfast Show, Paul on the Tube and that royal show doing Only Love Remains, The Spies Like Us video, Appearances on Wogan and Saturday Superstore, the 86 and 89 TV specials. McCartney on McCartney on the radio. The All the best promo stuff and Once upon a long ago. His sublime vocal contributions to the otherwise dire Ferry Aid and Hillsborough records. We all Stand Together video and childhood good feeling. Broadstreet and Lonely Nights, Pipes of Peace video. How I thought Press was the best video ever! All of these I have first hand memories of. Paul popping up in Tracy Ulmans video. The incredible My Brave Face and This One singles. The Latest Resort show with Paul signing all JR's Beatle LP's. Paul is stuck in my mind in this time zone. The last few weeks I have been left a little sad that this is not the case. I have been deluded thinking it was. Times, people and everything has changed. I accept that now and things will never be the same again. Time goes so quickly and things are different. You can't reheat a souffle someone once said. Can anyone else admit that they are stuck is a slightly delusional state from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's even noughties when things were different and that they are trying somehow to hold on to this time. Just an observation. We can't recreate Beatle Paul, Wings Paul etc. and neither can he.
-
Hmm... i posted after just reading the opening post! But now i've just read this page and see it's fighting again... i thought we were just thinking back to when we first loved Paul and agreeing that in a way nothing ever holds up to that first burning bright love and enthusiasm that we had back then. So how did it get fighty?! I mean i love all Paul periods, it's just i accept that 84 to say well probably linda's death is my most connectable time. But from 98 to now aint bad either
-
aye Eeee Cor i heard your knees creaking. August 1963 but do i live in that decade or the next when i used my dinner money to buy lps and singles, nope not on your nelly. From the 80's onwards and all the artists i like , i have hoped for 3-4 songs per album that i really enjoy if not love just wainting for the occasional staqnd out masterpiece. Which for paul was flaming pie for me in the last ten years the album i have played most of his. The voice changes I am and have always been ok with that, the alternative is much worst. But macca has never just been a singer in a rock n roll band, he is a writer that has hit many many heights, which is why i aint bought Kisses and am not likely too till it is in poundland. I was lucky enough to be at the secret gig and the electric prom with two macca virgins and the joy and happiness and tears running down their faces at songs i have heard ten times or more, are some of my fondest memories in recent years. I still enjoy his concerts though if i get the chance in the future it will cost me more and more but hell i would only spend the money on bad women, wine, fags, super duper chair, new oven. Not been to a moodies concert for a few years now but then again i did take a leave of absence in the 90's from them due to having one or if we were lucky two songs changes. From my point of view it is far too long from our last dose of medicine ( new ablum of NEW material) indeed i require a yearly dose.
